I do like my X50 a lot, but recently drove a car V1 equipped, really enjoyed the arrows.

Must be late at night.

^^ i don't really speed. just got it for the interior bling factor.

I did a semi-hardwire install on my G35C last night. looks great.
like how a lot of the MINI folks were doing here, i just took the
thin flat power cord and stuff it between the ceiling and glass,
a-pillar, and down the weather strip, crossed under the steering
column, and into the driverside cigarette lighter (G35's come with
one on each side of the center console).

i can put the concealed display later on if i feel like it and it will be
in perfect position.

only tools i used were: hard-plastic tint squeegee to push the
cord between the panels, scissors for e-tape, and e-tape to
mount the wire to the b-surface under the steering column.

here is where and how i mounted the V1 in my G35C... i know, it's a
bad pict and never mind the wall mounted flourescent light on the other
side of the mirror in my garage...

here you can see how i mounted the V1 right under the factory blue
tint band and check out how short the power cable is.

The cable runs above the ceiling, around the A-pillar, down the weather
seal, under the steering column into the driverside cigarette lighter. it is
not a full hardwire because i plan to get the concealed display down
the road.

functionally it's great. i like the tone of the V1 better than the boring
Passport7500 i was using in this car. now i need to get one for my
MCS.

Looks good Kenchan - you might want to try the unit mounted to the right of the rearview mirror instead, it is just as visible and does not block the glass right in front of you. We ended up putting the concealled display at the base of the A pillar on a few cars and it seems like a good spot there fwiw.

Just my .02

a reach to mute the unit when i didn't want it beeping...so just went
above my forehead.

I seriously doubt that there is anywhere within 1k miles of Chicago that you see as much use from a radar detector as the north and west suburbs.

I used to run a Cobra 9750, then I blew it up (long story mind your l=poles even when there is not a shred of documentation on them) I've been missing it more and more lately, as its more for the knowledge of where they are opposed to speeding issues. It never failed to warn me, little excessive on the flase alerts, but I quickly learned where those where, it would warn against Laser with ample time for adjustment when nessacary (I still don't know how people insist its too late unless they are really hauling).
Here's a pic of the innards (since I blew it up figured I might as well disect it)

I think I still have it triple sealed in a bag lying out in the garage somewhere, but it reaks.

V1 is on the wish list and I'll go without until then, but I need to take care of things like monthly car payments gas and tires first.

Here is how I mounted my V1. I always remove it from the car and suction cups don't hold up to that for me.

They say a picture is worth 1000 words...but those pics aren't enough. What is that whiet thing you have your V1 connected to?

What is obvious to you isn't to me.

Funny you should ask I started with a sheet of aluminum and tried to form it to the shape (angle) I needed, but it wouldn't stay. So wandering around the hardware store, I stumbled on a plastic wall light switch cover. I thought it would be perfect and wouldn't cut through the head liner if I mounted it reverse. So I bought it. When I got home and tried to cut it, the plastic shattered :( but I was left with enough plastic parts to see I was on to something. So I went back to the store and bought a metal one and a can of white paint. I cut it, bent it, drilled holes for the V1 mount, cut out the hole for the plastic sun visor hook, painted it and there you go.

Really anything similar would work.

interesting setup, rwkeating! is your power cord dangling
like that, or do you have it tucked between the winshield and ceiling?
Should fit just by pushing in.

I hardwired my old 7500 to my Legacy yesterday.

After driving 2hrs with the V1, the 7500 on my MCS no longer
cuts it for me... i mean, it beeps and all, but where the hell is the
signal coming from?! so, im seriously
thinking about saving up to get another one dedicated to my
MCS. maybe next spring...

Great work..I've been looking for a more permanent V1 mount and have been having trouble finding one. I've been "meaning to" get a V1 for 3 years now. Who knows when I will finally be able to afford it.

yah, ive been 'meaning' to buy one for like the last 5 years to tell you
the truth. i had three 7500's on my different cars and it was doing real
well. im pretty much done with my major mods on my cars so this is why
i had some extra spending cash for the V1.

Thanks kenchan. Yes the cable is just up there. I tried tucking it under the headliner in front, but there was nothing to hold it there and it kept popping out. With the sun visor up, you can't see the cable. The cable is attached with a cable tie to the V1 mount so even if I pull the sun visor down the cable just sits there up against the headliner almost in a strange gravity defying way

thanks jwardell. My idea was to make a mount where I wouldn't need to alter the interior. So far, the screw that holds the sun visor hook is strong enough to hold the V1. The key was to keep the V1 center as close to the screw as possible to avoid undo stress. I really wanted the V1 closer forward to the windshield, but this is a good trade off of location and stability.

Actually, this general idea could be used with any detector.

what you can do is take some 3M trim mounting tape, wrap the power
cord with it like a Cinnabon and mount it into the gap between the
ceiling and the glass. then it won't pull out on its own.

gotta love em cinnabons.

You can get a laser jammer...(some one mentioned it, they tested it on Top Gear)...They are supposed to work but are $$$. When they detect a laser they respond with their own stronger signal...so the cops laser device reads the signal sent from the car and reads an error. Some one can check me if I am wrong here, but they are only illegal in a couple states....Laser transmission is not regulated by the FCC, instead by the FDA of all groups? Radar jammers are illegal becuase of FCC regulations.

Edit: sorry did not see the whole 2nd page.

I think they are illegal in Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC. That is according to radarbusters.com

I stand corrected on the State Laws. Despite what that website says, RADAR jammers are illegal under federal law. State laws may vary. LASER jammers are not under federal law but it looks like States can do anything they want!
