Don't worry about it, the ECU is so good that as soon as somebody tries to test the pollution system it modifies the program to be in compliance, then it changes back.

Did they ever reveal who the person was that spilled the beans?

The folks who first found the cheat are at Virginia Tech. A few German executives were found guilty and a couple were arrested (one were arrested on vacation passing thru US) and jailed in the US. At least one was tried and found guilty in absentia. I am sure the cheat went very high up and there are still many that are guilty and will never be brought to justice.

The rub for me on these VWs in storage is, they will eventually be exported to countries with weak laws and order, like Africa and the Middle East. So the impact to the environment will hardly be mitigated. Such is humanity.

Don't even get me started on this.

Yep. Photo of bought back diesel VWs. MY wife had a 2013 Golf TDI that VW bought back from us. We used the money to buy a fully loaded 2013 JCW Countryman

Here is a good long read about the VW group aggressive goals to reach 100% electric in slightly over a decade. The company's WW sales is nearly back to before the crisis level.

I won't be buying another new VW anytime soon. I remember it well. But then again I got a pretty nice car for 3 years of use with almost zero cost to me. If they fixed it up and made it legit (also airbag fix needed), I'd probably buy one back at a bargain price.

It was a nice car, zero rattles if you are listening my beloved F56 who still has the occasional buzzzzz.
