Yes. Balances the extra weight of the fart can!

I had one for about a week and hated myself for it, so it came off.

Haha, I've been toying with the idea of putting one on my car, though more for track days because I hate how the stock towing eye looks at track days.

Doesn't the tow hook imply that the car needs towed on a regular basis? In other words, it quits running at the most inconvenient times so why take it off?

Back in the day I had a "PULL TO INFLATE" sticker surrounding my rear tow hook and people used to ask me about it all the time. Its real use was as a temporary tie out for my malamute. Yes, he fits in the MINI.

So it has a practical use.

If I see a car that has one on it, I make sure I stay out of their lane and in front of them. I don't want to be anywhere near a car that advertises that it will probably break down.

Oh my god now I know what to do with my dog when I work on my car, she's to much of a spaz to even let wonder around 20 acres on her own! Now I just need to buy a tow hook......mine was missing when I bought the car!

And then there was the day when MINI was in neutral & e-brake wasn't set when MALAMUTE ran off with the damn car. Irresponsible owner.

Seems every weekend I see a fart can car on the side if the road with two others behind it...their drivers trying to get the first car running again, I think perhaps the tow hook is the one "functional" item on their cars....typical for a "certain" crowd....make it look fast...but it barely runs, and goes slower than stock!! Remember, superficial folks don't care about substance!!
Me on the other hand.... I was 90% sleeper....it took a good eye to spot the changes that made the car mine, and everything was OEM+....not things like Pontaic style body kits that added weight to slow a car down, by adding weight!!

We have the genuine or aftermarket tow hook options here if interested: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...g13.htm#item54

Some of us are not poseurs. I've been an HPDE instructor for about 35 years now and have the good 'ol stock tow hooks installed both front and rear on TRACKRAT. While I've never had the need to use them, I'd hate to have an off-track "excursion" and not have them installed. The tow vehicle guys get rather upset when they're not.

Couldn't you just put them in the back storage compartment where they come when you buy the car? Do they really need to be installed 24/7?

Not a fan but if your going for the race look, go for it. Your car, your choice.

I think you are the exception rather than the rule I doubt any of those cheap anodized aluminum tow hooks people get off of ebay and put on their cars will even have enough strength to pull the car without breaking.

I will say, I did keep mine on for about a month on my 07 when the CEL kept coming on saying that the valves were all misfiring. Took about that long to have the idiot mechanic I went to buy the correct spark plugs. He didn't believe me that they were $33/each. So I got to keep driving (needed to work to pay for it!) until he finally ordered what I told him to start off with. I stayed with him until I got my money worth that I paid him. Grr

Very bad idea unless you want to be clubbed in the head by one

I hook my microphone to mine on track days

I put a BlueOx baseplate in mine so I could tow it behind my motorhome.
Doubles the bumper strength and has 2 convenient tow 'eyes' to hook to with a cable & hook.

Why is it a bad idea to put it in the foam tray or bag it comes with in its proper storage location when not at the track??

Instead of a tow hook in the front, you can put the offset license plate holder.
