I am considering putting a deposit down on the yet to release BMW M2, 300 hp coupe. Anyone want to buy a MINI?

I also have plans of trading up to the M2 after they get the bugs worked out in the first year or so. It looks very promising thus far, should be a nice car. Who knows though, if there is a 250hp RWD MINI by that time I'd probably just get that instead

It could be a long wait for a RWD MINI -- they have always been FWD and I hope BMW keeps it that way out of respect for the marque.

btw, BMW is touting the 1 and 2 series as their "back to basics" models. Hopefully that means less reliance on intrusive automation and more reliance on the driver. What a concept.

According to my car magizine this month (I think it was automoblie mag), the 1 and 2 series are due out late '05 or early '06 and the M1/2 will come 6-12 months later. I absolutly love the M2. It looks awesome, is nice, and with 300hp, will go like a mother. The M2 is only going to be a little over 30k which is a great deal if it performs like they say it will and BMW has never let me down (well, except on the Z8, but that doesn't count). If you ask me, I would say that my mini (at 1.5 years old) will be due for replacement by the time the M2 comes out, sounds perfect to me.

agreed - you'll be waiting a long time. Something else to consider - in 3-4 years the current M3 on the used market might be a similar price.
