Asian car market uniqueness
DID wins  These cars actually have no heater core or internals for it. The cooling systems are usually beefed-up for the southern Asian market cars, according to a Toyota mechanic I talked to there...
Also, most modern HVAC systems have a control to direct airflow (dash vents, floor vents, defroster, etc.).
If there's no heater, what is the temp selector **** for? Does it range from "Cold" to "really cold" to "freakin' cold"? lol

Very normal for the tropics. I had my US spec. Toyota 4-Runner in Central America for so long that the heater valve froze (rusted) shut. I found out during an evening trip up "cerro de la muerte" (mountain of death) south of San Jose, Costa Rica. Heavy fog, temps in the 40's and no heat to the defroster. Two cans of WD-40 later, I pulled into San Jose, mission accomplished.
On my MGA, the heater was an option.

On an entirely side note, I have to say that I'm so enamored with "cerro de la muerte" as a phrase that I think I'm going to try to work it into every conversation I have today.
