My list after 15 years of driving in order of ownership.

1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo - First car present from parents, handed down to younger brother, ran it into a tree.

1991 VW Golf Wolfsburg - Handed down to me from older sister in college.

1995 Saturn SW2 - Traded-in the VW. Handed down to younger brother, still driving it.

2003 Hyundai Elantra GT - Paid Cash. Traded-in for 2006 MCSa.

2001 Volvo V40 - Won, partially in a poker game, long story.

2006 MCSa - Sitting at the dealer waiting to be picked up.

Not an impressive list regarding "gear head" status.

Hatchbacks and small wagons are my thing. As for the Jeep, it was had before the whole SUV craze. It was actually listed as a "wagon" on the registration. So my record is clean, I am not a gross polluter.

It is very hard to remember but I will give it a go - years are approximate and in order from first to most recent:

1972 Ford Pinto wagon - what a beauty
1972 Buick Century - had this car forever and put the most miles on it
1979 Olds 98
1980 Toyota Tercel
1982 Toyota Tercel
1986 Toyota Camry
1986 Porsche 944
1988 Toyota Celica
1990 Nissan Maxima
1988 Honda Accord
1993 Honda Civic Del Sol
1994 Toyota Rav 4
1996 Chevy Venture Van (biggest mistake of my life)
1996 Chevy Cavalier Z
2000 Ford Expedition
2000 VW Jetta
2003 Ford Expedition
1998 BMW 325

2003 Audi A4 - current
2003 Ford Focus - current (son drives)
2005 MINI Cooper S - current
1972 VW Microbus current (back to 70s for full circle)

Of all my cars I would rate that the best have been :

The MINI of course
1990 Nissan Maxima
1993 Honda Civic Del Sol
1994 Toyata Rav 4- believe it or not this was a great car - best snow car ever
1986 Porsche 944 - just barely makes the list because maintenance was ridiculously expensive

The 1972 VW Microbus is great too - it gets more looks and stares and people talking to me about it than the MINI

Maybe soon to get:
2006 BMW 330xi or 530Xi

1990 Ford Ranger (My first car it was pretty much indestructible, I ran this thing with nearly any oil, downshifted at 60 mph into 2nd gear, it still ran like a champ)

1984 Pontiac Sunbird Turbo (Engine blew up when I think the oil change place didn't replace the oil plug, I was a stupid kid and didn't bother mentioning the oil pressure gauge read 0 psi afterwards )

1999 Ford Contour SVT (Probably my favorite car of all, I lusted for them for a couple years before I finally got the chance to buy one, was totalled by a blind old lady who shouldn't have been driving )

2000 Ford Focus ZX3 (was a good car except for stupid problems such as the frozen ignition cylinder and broken drivers door, sold it for the MCS)

2005 Mini Cooper S

Thinking of an 80's Golf GTI as a winter beater or finding another 4 banger Ranger, hmmm.

Your the man ripley!!! How in the world have you kept a Fiat X1/9 in any sort of drivable condition much less auto-x able. My dad had one and the CV joint took a dump on the way home from the dealership. The first and last time he'll drive a mid engined car...unless I have something to do with it

My list is very short as I'm just south of 21 and they're currently the parent's .
1993 Saturn SC2 5 speed - learned to drive on it. sold at 120k miles.
1997 Chrysler Town and Country - current college car. tranny died at 115k miles. driven home on weekends. soon to be sold...hopefully
2000 Honda Insight 5 speed - 80k miles at 65 mpg so far. Dad plans on driving it into the ground. I drove it to my first few years of high school, dropping mom off and picking her up from work. She now drives it since I'm in college. I learned to double clutch downshift in this car.
2002 MCS - I drove it my final year of HS and dad now drives it to work. It's mine when we sell the van. Learned to heel-toe in it.

Ok, there's a cautionary tale here. Let me preface by saying I've always loved cars, but I'm not gonna be stoopid about it:

In this order:

1978 Toyota Celica
*** got married ***
1983 Volvo 240DL Wagon
*** child 1 ***
1976 VW Type 2 Wagon (Bus)
*** child 2 ***
*** child 3 ***
1993 Ford Aerostar
1997 Honda Civic DX (non-VTEC)
1999 Chevy Express 1500 Van
*** child 1 starts college ***
2006 Mini Cooper S

I figured I better enjoy one before the line reads *** I died ***.

After Yamaha 80 and Honda 160 motorcycles in college, I moved to cars with:
1964 Austin Cooper
1967 MGB
1971 Volvo 142E (one tough cookie)
1984 (Brazilian) Chevrolet (alchohol) overseas assignment
1988 Ford Taurus LX [?] *
1993 Ford Escort GT (taken over by teenage son)
1995 Ford Contour SE (this WAS a sweet car)
2000 Ford Mustang GT (taken over by same son, on graduating college)
2002 Ford Mustang GT
2004 Ford Escape XLT *
2005 MINI Cooper S "Topper"

All were manual transmissions except where *, the more mundane ones were in deference to my wife, young family, dog or all three. While "growing up", I was surrounded by: Austin Devon Sedan (learned to drive on this one), Volvo PV544, 122S, P1800, MG1100 and early Datsun wagon.

What memories, what fun! No wonder I now have Topper.
