If there was no MINI what would you buy?
That's a really good question. I don't have my MINI yet (I'll be getting it this spring/summer) and I have thought that if for some reason I couldn't or didn't get one what else would I want? To be honest there's not much else in the MCS price range that interests me. I think I'd either get the new '05 Mustang or possibly a VW GTi or Jetta. While I like these cars they just don't do it for me like the MINI. I'm so glad the MINI is here!
You asked for it. The short list of vehicles I had before I decided to buy the MCS, all MY2003/2004:
- Acura RSX-S
- Acura TSX
- Audi A4 Avant Quattro
- Chevrolet TrailBlazer LT 4WD
- Dodge Ram 2500 Ext. Cab 4x4 "Hemi" 5.7L V8
- Ford Taurus SE-S
- Kia Sorento EX 4WD
- Honda Civic LX coupe
- Honda Accord EX V6
- Mitsubishi Galant ES
- Saturn VUE V6 AWD
- Subaru Impreza WRX STi
- Suzuki XL7 4WD
- Suzuki Aerio SX AWD
- Volkswagen Golf R32
- Volkswagen Passat W8 sedan 6-Speed
- Acura RSX-S
- Acura TSX
- Audi A4 Avant Quattro
- Chevrolet TrailBlazer LT 4WD
- Dodge Ram 2500 Ext. Cab 4x4 "Hemi" 5.7L V8
- Ford Taurus SE-S
- Kia Sorento EX 4WD
- Honda Civic LX coupe
- Honda Accord EX V6
- Mitsubishi Galant ES
- Saturn VUE V6 AWD
- Subaru Impreza WRX STi
- Suzuki XL7 4WD
- Suzuki Aerio SX AWD
- Volkswagen Golf R32
- Volkswagen Passat W8 sedan 6-Speed
I would've been tempted to get a Miata, but I really appreciate the xtra cargo space MINIs offer....that and I really still need a back seat on occasion. Short of that I probably would've gotten another un-inspiring cheap car w/4 doors...maybe even an Accent or a Rio...or a Civic. Needless to say, I am SO GLAD to have my MINI!!!!!
Probably would have gotten either a Beetle or Jetta, maybe a PT Cruiser, although the new Mazda 3's are pretty sharp. Thank God for my MINI!

Sorry, miniphyter that's the short list of cars that I was looking at before choosing the MINI. My actual list of owned cars isn't anywhere near as interesting (no Audis, no 8-cylinder, six-speed Passats, etc.).

Actually, I was really in the position of getting a new daily driver of some sort and then also bringing over a classic Mini. In the end that would have been impractical, as least from my current perspective, but I was well on the road to making it happen. I started looking at MINIs sorta as a fluke...but then I was hooked and haven't looked back for a second.

I was thinking about getting the RSX-S and modifying it into a type-R with JDM
parts, but i chose to go with the MCS after my dealer let me test drive it
around the block for about 20min. The MCS felt so 'complete' that it was
to a point getting a RSX-S and modifying it was too much work for me.
I would also consider the GTi R32 and G35 coupe.
