That's a really good question. I don't have my MINI yet (I'll be getting it this spring/summer) and I have thought that if for some reason I couldn't or didn't get one what else would I want? To be honest there's not much else in the MCS price range that interests me. I think I'd either get the new '05 Mustang or possibly a VW GTi or Jetta. While I like these cars they just don't do it for me like the MINI. I'm so glad the MINI is here!

I would've been tempted to get a Miata, but I really appreciate the xtra cargo space MINIs offer....that and I really still need a back seat on occasion. Short of that I probably would've gotten another un-inspiring cheap car w/4 doors...maybe even an Accent or a Rio...or a Civic. Needless to say, I am SO GLAD to have my MINI!!!!!

Probably would have gotten either a Beetle or Jetta, maybe a PT Cruiser, although the new Mazda 3's are pretty sharp. Thank God for my MINI!

Ideally either a VW Golf R32 or Audi S4 Avant, both 2004 models. Nothing like adding a little AWD to your hi-performance Euro-ride.

Most likely a Subie WRX STi, Lancer Evo, or VW Golf TDI. The Golf R32 looked yummy, but pricey too :-

Either would have been a Mazda Miata MX-5 (too impratical) or a VW GTI 1.8T (too heavy). Also thought about used Boxsters.

Sorry, miniphyter that's the short list of cars that I was looking at before choosing the MINI. My actual list of owned cars isn't anywhere near as interesting (no Audis, no 8-cylinder, six-speed Passats, etc.).

Actually, I was really in the position of getting a new daily driver of some sort and then also bringing over a classic Mini. In the end that would have been impractical, as least from my current perspective, but I was well on the road to making it happen. I started looking at MINIs sorta as a fluke...but then I was hooked and haven't looked back for a second.

but if i did have to pick a new kar, it would be the "04 GTO" or the "WRX" or the "TT"

Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Good thing there are MINIs cause the Cayenne is to much money for me.

I was thinking about getting the RSX-S and modifying it into a type-R with JDM
parts, but i chose to go with the MCS after my dealer let me test drive it
around the block for about 20min. The MCS felt so 'complete' that it was
to a point getting a RSX-S and modifying it was too much work for me.

I would also consider the GTi R32 and G35 coupe.
