Don't know why this was moved to Off Topic, it's very relevant to current Mini owners that have the same problem with HPFPs...

not MINIs. It's related for sure, but there is no mention of the MINI problems in the article.

Anyway, read some of the comments.

Also, the author of the article has no clue about what this type of failure will do in a DI engine. But then, he's a finance guy.

It's sad that BMWs corporate response is so muted. And it's even sadder that NHTSA isn't doing more. A failure of a hard part is something that is very easy to confirm, and is also something that can't be a mistaken pedal application. This is EXACTLY what they should be looking at. One family cited in the article had the failure in two cars! Statistically, this is a very, very rare event and suggests that the problem is more widespread.
