ah, one dealer in CA, Redwood City.
For being relatively affordable, they might need to expand a little to meet up with the demand.
I've wanted one ever since I saw it parked in Vegas during Gumball.

Ever since I was a little boy I wanted an Esprit. I was upset when they made it a V8 and then again when they stopped making it. The Elise has made up for all of that though, and has also replaced my thoughts of going after an S2000. This might be a car that I would consider parking the Cooper outside for.

I've driven the Lotus Elise in Europe. It is a great race car but only a mediocre road car. It would do for a week-end toy (3rd or 4th car). It sticks like glue and goes like stink, but it won't carry a tune (no radio) nor keep out the rain. I know someone in my hometown who imported two in kit form, engines apart from the rest. Did one up for the track, another for the street. I followed the street version home from Mid-Ohio once in a driving rain. Three hours later, I was only damp in my MGC, the Lotus driver looked like he'd drown in the Elise. On the track it would have been a different story.
Yes an Elise would be a nice car for club racing, and the occasional presentation at the local drive-in during the summer. Another great Lotus to have would be a 1960's Elan. Alas, that too was a great race car but a poor road car.

Spotted! Yesterday at Auto Europe, Michigan's only Lotus dealer, a Graphite Grey with Black Leather Elise, just sitting outside showing itself to Woodward Avenue. I immediate pulled into their parking and snapped a pic. First impressions: this car is small! it's MINI short (length), go-kart short (height), and the seats I swear are below the floorboards! This one had Georgia plates; wonder why?

Very beautiful car. First time I saw the Elise was during a trip to the UK in early 2001. A year later I saw a right hand drive sample (yellow) being driven around South Florida. Last November I finally saw a US spec Elise at the South Florida International Auto Show.
I still much prefer the MINI. The MINI is a comfortable, fun, practical, down to earth car. I don't believe the Elise will be a direct competitor to the MINI, since the Elise's base price is in the low $40Ks which puts it at $20K over a base Cooper S.
I am glad to see the return of the "British Invasion" of fun, small sports cars. However, it is also nice to know that my MINI has all the cool factor, performance and handling dynamics of the Lotus for $20K less, so hey we can't really complaint.
I want to see the initial mark-up on the Elise at the very, very few and far in between Lotus dealers. I think the manufacturer that really needs to worry about the arrival of the Elise is Porsche with thier aging and more expensive Boxster roadster...

General Motors, in Europe, sells their own version of the Lotus Elise. It is called the Vauxhall VX220 (In the U.K.) and the Opel Speedster in Germany and elsewhere in the world.
Here is the Vauxhall VX220:

Here is the Opel Speedster:

Also check out some of the beautiful vauxhall/Opel models shown in thier websites. Why GM North America doesn't sell these awesome cars here is totally and completely beyond my understanding.
Enjoy!

>>Stunning car. But what's that muddy grey car in the foreground, just in front of it???
>>
Thanks Deli!
MM2 is gettin' itchy for springtime, so he can get a deep-tissue message (full-detailing and wax!)
I kinda agree with the GM being clueless comment. The VX220 very much should be sold here in the 'States, that would rock! Fine, slap some Pontiac badges on it, but don't touch the styling

When I took delivery of my MCS from Ohio in early January, I purposely drove down to Los Angeles to check out Elise in person at the auto show. The car is absolutely
