What car from your past do you regret giving up?
'94 Mazda RX-7 TT. Spent more in a year trying to fix it then what i bought it for. Despite that, the car made me feel the same way as getting into my MINI every day, and i'd buy another in a heartbeat.
Funny, those del sol's are technically called
the CRX del sol edition. I don't blame you for wishing you
had not gotten rid of it. I always wanted one but it
just never worked out.
My step dad always said he wished he had not gotten
rid of this model A with a rumble seat.
My former boss, the best one I've ever had, it was
a 69 convertable tempest.
So, I decided way back to NOT get rid of the car I'd wish
I'd kept.
Although originally I had bought it as a 6 year car.
So at this point I've decided I won't get rid of my CRX, ever.
Although I'm not sure what happens when I can't get parts.
(already at the point you can't get some parts, or sometimes
you wait 2-3 weeks and are just glad they have it)

Woah. I had one of those and it was one of the most challenging cars I've ever had. The SU carbs never worked well and the suspension was, let's just say marginal. If I remember I had to lift it up to get it on a lift. But it was fun to take it to the beach.
That said, for me I want my 1967 Chevelle 396/350 back. White with a black vinyl top. It was the first car that I ever totally rebuilt and in this case it was on GM's dime as my College job was a Chevy parts guy in the afternoons and in 1970 when I had it it was still under warranty. There was nothing on that car that was extraneous. Too bad that the tires in those days were simply not up to the task. And compared to the MINI, it was a pleasure to work on.

well, not one I sold but one I was ready to buy with loan check in hand and it didn't work out (my buddy bought it instead, snaking me on the deal as it was his customer selling...which, in the end, wasn't a bad thing as I helped him replace the $1200 water pump...took us 10 hours
):
just like this, but silver (AC Schnitzer wheels and spoiler and $20k audio system in it....my buddy's company installed)

The car I most regret getting rid of was my first car - a 1971 Toyota Corolla 1200 with a 4-speed manny tranny and 12" wheels. It was an economy car in the form typical of that time (there was no real 'typical' economy car form at that time), but it was my own little sports car and I loved it.

I didn't actually 'get rid' of it. I just crushed the front end in an accident.
I also had a '77 Jeep CJ7 that I liked. Should never have traded it for that Saab 99S that needed tranny work. What was I thinking?!
My '79 rabbit was a great car, too. Didn't get rid of that one, either. Bent the frame in an accident.

I had a '67 Chevy 4-door something (Impala? Caprice?) that I liked, too. It was a brush-painted medium blue. Big as a battleship, unemcumbered 327, 2-speed auto tranny, and manual steering. I put a spinner on the wheel so I could park it.

ericvonzipper - love your 71 corolla story and pic. my dad bought a new 71 as his first car but then emigrated to Canada, selling it to his brother. Would you believe it is still the "Athens runabout"? Lots of DIY maintenance over the years, on its 3rd engine by now, but running still just fine. I drove it in Athens a few summers ago and apart from a touchy 4speed the car was pretty solid. Incredible how long you can keep a car if you do your own work and are determined to keep it running!
My first car, as with so many posters above. It was a '56 Chevy Bel Air in the kind of turqouis, blue/green, wonderful color; three-on-the-column, bench seats, one-speaker radio, and the gas cap hidden under the neat flip-down right tail light. (I won't go into the happy history of the back seat.)
1966 289 Mustang Coupe, Candy Apple Red. Mine had a bench front seat, quite rare from what I was told. Second one would be my 1988 Mustang LX 5.0, in Bright Regatta Blue metallic, a stealth GT. I sold it because it had been stolen one night. We found it around the corner from the house but I felt too violated to want to keep driving it, plus the paint was starting to flake off.
You know, I also had a 62 Plymouth Valiant with a goose-neck shift lever that lay flat on the bench seat and did a kind of question-mark following the front edge of the bench and back under the seat.
Underpowered, cornered like a drunken sailor, but I could shift without the clutch after awhile. That was a fun car.
