My friend went to the Rahal facility a few weeks back for a blood drive. While there he met a bunch of people and entered in a raffle for a weekends worth of hospitality from the team. I was fortunate enough to be asked to join him on Friday.

Upon arriving we headed over to the hospitality truck and got our passes and such for the day. The entire experience was mind boggling. We had lunch next to Mr. Rahal himself and got to hear them talking strategy for the big race. Very cool.

To make a long story short, we grabbed a cart and hit up a lot of spots along the track. Most of which I had never shot at. I've got plenty more pictures, but these are my favorites. I am going to print one of the pictures of their car out and my buddy is going to make a custom CF frame to put it in and give to them as a thank you gift. So let me know which one you like best of that car.

Nice pictures. I was working as a tyre guy for the Flying Lizards this weekend (I notice there aren't any good pictures of the Lizards )

 

I'm shooting with a 5d and a 70-200 f2.8L for these shots. I was worried that going from a crop frame (300d) to a full frame would make it difficult to get zoomed in on the cars, but I was pleasantly surprised once I started shooting.

Thank you! I can't remember her name at the moment but she is an up and coming star in the IRL (apparently). My buddy told me to snap a picture as she was walking into the bathroom. Shortly after Danica walked out and headed for pit row. Unfortunately I still had my telephoto attached so I couldn't snap a picture.

Scott I used to shoot endurance racing during the mid-90's (Daytona, Sebring and LeMans). Back then, I used a f4 and an n90s. Love 'em both but I haven't touched them in years. Yeah I should be shot. I've been trying to upgrade to digital. I gotta tell you have a great eye. Good stuff, really good stuff.

Thank you! That means a lot to me. Now I need to get some deal going on where I can get a media pass. Unfortunately MidOhio requires you to be working for a publication in order to obtain a photo pass and I don't even know where to begin on finding a gig with someone to do this sort of stuff.

BTW, go blow off that dust and start snappin'! I'd love to see some of your old work if you still have some laying around.


Calaway... here are some of the shots I got of the Flying Lizard Porsche around the track. I only got a chance to see one of the ALMS practice sessions, during the other ones and qualifying I was playing taxi with the golf cart we rented.
