Interesting overhear at the VW dealer

I'm walking through the VW dealer to get
a part to fix the falling off door handle
of my wife's VW.

You have to walk through this HUGE service department
to the parts department.

I overhear a manager type telling a technician type
"Make a note in the computer that the customer
said they have been changing their own oil, and not
using synthetic"

I just thought that was interesting.

knowing VW, they recommend Mobil 1 full synthetic for the newer/higher up models (1.8t, 2.0t, VR6 and any Audi product). i am willing to bet that if anything goes wrong with that engine it wont be covered under warrantee.

something funny i overheard at the local VW dealer:
receptionist: "where is the manager?"
service writer: "why?"
recptionist: "someone just left Chrysler (connected dealer owned by the same company) and his hood wasnt latched properly. it flew open on RT. 1. he isnt very happy."
service writer:" "
me: " " go out to my car, double check hood to make sure it is latched.
service tech: "we latch hoods, the dodge guys suck"

Actually VW recommends 5w-30. And if you throw a rod or spin a bearing and they do an oil analysis...and find out you didnt use the recommended oil...they will deny your warranty claim. Trust me...I know.. Ive had 5 Jetta's and now the Touareg...

i know for the 1.8t, dealers use fully synthetic Mobil 1, i assumed that Audi and the VR6 used the same. and in the owners manual they give recommended oil weights for the different climates.
