Honda AC advice/help

Yes, this would be better posted on my little honda club site,
but they were not forthcomming with info.

My wife's VW is broken down, so that puts her in the mini,
and me in my honda full time.

I want to fix the AC.
I was hosed by this meth smoking mechanic that did the
conversion a few years ago. I tried to get the dealer install
kit (complete AC in a box) but they said it is no longer available.
That's from majestic honda online.

I have a compressor that the guy swears to me was
"taken off the car that day and it still worked"
(Beaver's honda, mooresville NC).

I know a new condensor is about $150 online aftermarket.
$180 from majestic honda.

I already have a never opened receiver dryer.
The expansion tube thing has about (guess) less than
20 hours on it before the compressor siezed.

My plan is take apart as much as possible. Take the evaporator
unit out. Clean everything with brake cleaner spray and blow
everything out with compressed air. To remove the microscopic
metal particles and junk that comes off an exploded compressor.

Replace the condensor and dryer with new.

Take it to the man and have it professionally charged with
R12.

Can anybody add anything to this plan?

A new evaporator and a new compressor are over
$300 each. I really don't have that much.
The compressor I have has been in the attic but sealed up
for about 4 years.

THANKS
(87 CRX Si, Sandan AC unit)

Don't buy a rebuilt compressor on e-bay. I went through three of them on my CRX before using one from a local salvage yard. Also you might want to get the conversion kit to run R134, it was cheaper in the long run.

I have the conversion kit, if by that you mean
the R134 charging valves.
I was not aware it needed anything else.

Have you had good luck with the R134?

I was going to convert back to R12. Idiot Dude
did the conversion for me when he ruined it.
So I can't say if it was him or if the R134 contributed
to the failure. Because it didn't last long enough.

An R12 charge is very expensive.

The R134 should work just fine. After the pump seized, we just replaced the compressor and evaporator.
