Top Gear NBC pilot
It shows on BBCAmerica Monday evenings.
Hopefully the American version is just as much a hit as the British version.
Adam will make a good host.
Anyone know what happened to the "IT Crowd" that NBC was supposed to air? I've seen all the episodes from the BBC version and they're hilarious! NBC should have just aired that show in its original format during the writer's strike.

I wasn't sold on the idea of an American version of TG because I didn't think that there was any way it would compare to the original...but Adam Carolla is awesome. I'll have to tune in just to watch him.

It will be interesting to see how critical they are about particular cars, especially on commercial television.
Imitation is the highest form of flattery but something tells me this will end badly
Someone please enlighten me. Do TV execs in the U.S. have no original ideas??

I've been hoping someone in the US would give this a try again. I really wish it had been one of the cable networks (it's ideal for Spike TV) where they could be a little more audacious. Romor has it that Jay Leno was offered the Clarkson role but turned it down out of fear the NBC would restrict his ability to be critical of some US brands.
It will come down to the dynamics of the staff. Note that in the British version, none of the hosts are gearheads in any way - that's part of what makes it fun, they have a much more consumer view of things than all the Speed TV show guys have.
My dream team would have included Tim Allen in the Clarkson role, Adam in the Hamster role, and Colin Mochrie (from Who's Line is it Anyway) in James's role.
And Danica Patrick as the US Stig

I agree. There are tons of good shows that air in Australia and the UK that we don't get in the US. And then, the networks will butcher them by coming up with their own version.
I have finally caught a few episodes of Top Gear. Those guys are great. They do some pretty stupid stuff, and I don't necessarily agree with them. They are funny those. Nothing like drag racing tractors.
it should be interesting.... I've been watching TG for about a month now and because of reruns I've seen maybe 6 or 8 of last season's episodes. My friend who turned me onto the show described it as "crack for car guys". I'm definitely addicted.
As for the US show - I'll give it a shot but I wonder if they are going to have the same format - celeb's time driving and daffy tasks. I'm also wondering about the type of cars they'll be able to test. Some of the cars on TG aren't able to come to the states.

According to Adam Carolla, he intends to do the show more or less exactly like they do. He's a big fan. They'll have a course at an L.A. area airport and a tote-board for posting everyone's times, celebs, etc.. - of course, we shall see.
I have been watching TG in reruns for a couple of months, that has to be the best car show going.
Last night's episode was a blast, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

Unfortunately this show is doomed to fail because of the talent that no one really knows in mainstream America.
I'll give it chance and I will watch it - but I'm expecting it to be nothing like the British version which all of us love.

I wonder if they're going to call him - the stig? And will the "fat" stig make a cameo...
Yes!! I could not stop laughing!!!
I've been watching Top Gear for years, we used to have a BBC channel back home. I've always LOVED the show, i don't agree with everything that Jeremy, "Hampster", and Cpt. Slow say but the show is a complete riot. for anyone who hasn't seen it just go to www.youtube.com and type top gear in the searchbar. The british leyland episode was good but the one where they make limos is even better. I'll give the new one a try if i can find when it might be on, but i don't think it could match the British one.
Go to www.finalgear.com where you can download, via torrents, the last 6 years of the show and I'm sure that your opinion will change.
I take on them is that Top Gear the jam to their bread and butter; their documentaries.
