Wowza. Pretty cool, even if it's not a MINI

wow that is a lot of power... in the end its still a vette (which I like) just not at the price tag. I rather go get a Porsche or Ferrari.

I didn't see a price, but at that level of car, i'm sure you would be into Enzo territory at what 1-2 millon bucks, don't think it's that expensive .

funny they mentioned some exotics (but not an actual competitor):

"It all boils down to the power-to-weight ratio and the ZR1’s is exceptional," said Chevy's Ed Peper. "Better than the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 and even the Lamborghini LP640.
numbers were just released on the upcoming GT-R - 0-60 in 3.3 and 11 sec 1/4 at 120+ (test done on a real production car by a private owner in Japan). I know which car I'd rather be driving and it's not wearing a bowtie (especially given the ability to tune previous Skylines). link

For the last 15 years corvette has been the best bang for the buck if your looking for high performace for under $100k. My pockets aren't quite that deep which is why I drive a MINI.

looks like it's posed to take that crown away. Really, the exotics are selling something other than specs, but bang for the buck performance leader looks to not be the Corvette any more.....

Are you talking about the GTR? I think the Z06 is cheaper no?

And it's got an Eaton...

so expect a version of a twinscrew that bumps power even more... But isn't this what the Corvette SS was supposed to be? A blown C6? Maybe they're playing games with the names.

I'm not sure if it's available aftermarket

it uses a magnetic fluid where the viscosity can be change with magnetic fields. This is what allows it's properties to be adjusted so quickly. Do some googling, as it's available on more than the Corvette now (while that was the fist car to get it).

impressive car, but i dont know how i feel about the plexi engine cover. its cool in a ferrari or lambo where you see the whole motor and not just a plastic cover that says "supercharged"

the window is probably cheaper than the carbon fiber it replaces!

Do you mean the Pratt & Miller GM sponsored GT-1 cars? Those are purpose-built race cars, not much in common with their street brethren. What they call them would come down to a marketing decision by GM. They won't be supercharged though.

As of now, the C6R will be status quo for 2008. But it gets interesting for 2009.

The Corvette will graduate to the LMP1 class with a closed top mid-engine prototype for the 2009 season. Then Cadillac will enter the ALMS with the XLR in the GT1 class. Since the street XLR is based on the C6 Vette, the XLR GT1 will most likely be a C6R with new bodywork and Cadillac engine.

For the GT2 class, there might be a production based C6.

I'd appreciate the opportunity to thrash one around in any way, shape, or fashion. :D

there were a few names thown around but all were speculation. SS was one, i think "Blue Devil" was thrown in, and maybe L-88 (old school guys correct me if that wasnt the all aluminum 427). Chevy was pretty tight lipped about this car, all of the information was from watching it lap The 'Ring

I don't believe they would ever call a Corvette an SS.

SS doesnt apply to the Corvette like it can to their other cars. You can upgrade to the performance model from the performance model, lol.

As before, Z06, ZR-1, etc, etc aren't models, like the SS is, they are merely option codes.

Anywho, whats new Matt? lol

that was true in the '60s, but since the c4 zr1 and the c5 z06, chevy has been treating them as models

They still are not dedicated models.

Look on their body tags, the option codes are still there. They just add the performance code to the fender in the form of an emblem now.
