For some reason, I really like this idea.

Would reduce the chances of getting door dings.

Probably not very cost-effective, more of a novelty thing for folks who have nothing better to do with their money.

I hate door dings. They drive me nuts. Probably a big reason why I like these roll down doors. Seems like a novelty but that's been said about many things. When the first cars came out I'm sure many people thought they were just a novelty. Same with a lot of "stuff" we use everyday, especially tech things like computers, cell phones, pdas, GPS, etc.

If Mini had it as an option, I'd get it.

THe BMW Z1 had doors that slid into the sills like that-they were really half doors but it was the same idea. I wonder if that video is old or they just had a couple Lincoln Mark 8's handy?

Hmmmph. Maybe I'm too skeptical in my dotage, but how wet do you think the interior gets when it rains/snows/sleets and the occupants either enter or exit the vehicle.

I remember the BMW Z1 for its doors that disappeared into the rocker panels. It was an awesome sight. The Z1 has been a favorite of mine for more than fifteen years.

If I'm not mistaken, I think they tried to sell that car on eBay a while back

Wow, a blast from the past! That was about 15 years ago, I think.

Don't ask about trunk space, though...
