You know the latest Car and Driver has a story on the Cosmo...guess it's been 40 years of the Wankle and Mazda will be doing a special addition of the RX8 that's white w/a maroon interior.
as great as the Rx8 is, it doesn't carry that same shape... and its that UFO like shape that seduces fans like me... i had an oppertunity to buy one awhile ago and stupid me i let it go because i cannot justify owning a 70s japanese coupe with a wankel engine... and live in the snow belt... because the first drop of salt.. and ill see the entire thing turn from white... to brown
For being so cool, that engine is the prime reason you don't see many RX7's on the road (and you probably won't see many RX8's either). Massive blowby, the need to run pig rich, and the fact that you can only drain 4 of the 7 quarts of oil make the RX8 a timebomb. I've actually read several comments by owners and dealer mechanics who say the only way to keep those things running is to drive the crap out of them. It's the only way to minimize the deposits left by the rich mixture. It's not a short trip, everyday driver, type of car.
