Rated the highest budget car by Consumers Magazine. We purchased a burnt orange Sport version with an auto (for the wifies traffic commute).

We like it. It's no Mini, but it's not meant to be. Great mpg.

Does this thing handle well? I test drove a Yaris and hated it!

It would handle better if it had wider rubber under it. That being said, there is no way it's going to handle as well as a stock Mini much less a modified Mini as I had (sold it to the little parasite).

We looked at all the budget cars and liked the Fit best. I didn't like the Yaris at all.

What I really like is the way the seats fold around to accomodate just about whatever you want to haul (within reason of course). It's very functional.

Would I buy it again? Yeppers.

It will certainly do 'till the new Camaro comes out. The wifiey is dying to get one of those. Nothing quite like the sound of a throaty V8!

I test drove a FiT with my GF and a salesman. It was an auto, as the car was for the GF but she had just moved to the area and didn't know the highways.

It was a little fun, but too weak. The auto, with A/C, with 3 people in it (none of us can really be called small) and it was almost dangerous getting onto the highway in Dallas traffic.

I'm curious what the OP has against Mazdas. I've been a mazda fan for a while, but recently bought a civic as a commuter car. The Civic has left me stranded more times than the so-called "unreliable" RX-7s ever did. My brother went from an accord to a Mazda3 5door and never looked back.

IMHO, the Mazdas have a much higher quality interior than Hondas, and are much more fun to drive.

While my civic is mildly fun to drive, if it lets me down again I will probably set it on fire.

I've been looking for one up here in Vermont. None to be found. Well, I did get to test drive one yesterday. But it was an automatic and I want a manual.

There are very very few of them sitting on dealer's lots.

What about a MINI Clubman vs. the Fit? Personally, I am not fond of Hondas, because they don't really have much soul or personality, and at the limit of handling, other than an S2000, I don't think any Honda in the US market will do better than a MINI. That said, there are some Civic Type R versions in Japan that are very capable cars. It seems like the Clubman might do well in this market!
