Sport Suspension R56 in San Francisco?
Sport Suspension R56 in San Francisco?
I have yet to get an answer to this question as most people do not drive through the terrible roads of San Francisco/ Oakland on a daily basis
I am going to order my MCS tomorrow and am not sure if I should order the Sport Suspension (ill be running 16inch wheels) or wait for a year and buy some Koni Shocks to use with my stock springs. I like driving challenging roads over the weekend but spend most of my week commuting between San Francisco and Oakland. The SF dealer ship will not order any cars with SS so I cannot test drive one.
Does anyone in San Francisco/ Oakland have Sport Suspension and like it or just the opposite?
Thanks in advance.

I just had a 2010 MCSa loaner from the dealer with 16" tires. Compared to my 17" Michelin Pilot AS Plus tired Mini, the loaner felt much smoother. The 17" tires make the car feel sportier because of the increased directness. That being said, with the extremely poor condition of SF streets, I'd go with the 16" tires over the 17's. Forget about the sport suspension. If you really want a good suspension, go with the Bilstein PSS package. A lot of good stuff has been written about this suspension especially how much softer it rides. This is going to be my next mod.
I have a 2009 MCS and have recently installed Koni Sports with NM engineering springs. This setup is great - no problems handling the bumps of SF and Oakland which i regularly commute to from the North Bay. I have non-run flat 17 inch Hankooks Evos on Racing Dynamic rims. The stock shocks were getting too floaty for my taste at 25,000 miles.
Some people think that Bilsteins are a bit harsh compared to Konis. My setup is also half the cost of the PSS 10 and still has a lifetime warranty. Unless you need corner balancing for the track, the PSS 10s are overkill for a daily driver.
I agree with the previous poster - the sport suspension is a waste of money.
