LAP has entered one of their MINIs in the World Challenge TC America class. In my neck of the woods, they will be racing at Sears Point in June.

I found the announcement:
https://world-challenge.com/latest/s...a-race-series/

It may only be one MINI, but it is a MINI racing.

I could get into rooting for the Alfas as an underdog but I can also enjoy rooting for Mat and co-drivers.

A bit of bump and grind in this racing and some clearly inexperienced driving in this in both the GT and TRC classes. But strong competition and competitive racing. Will be interesting to follow.

I was surprised to see the Hyundai Veloster racing in TRC as it is only a 3 door or are they counting the hatch as the 4th door?

Also, should I start a new thread to follow the old MINI team or leave it here?
I watched some of it too, and I noticed the same car numbers as on the JCW’s....neat! I’m certain we will be seeing more of Matt Pombo but my gut tells me even Matt misses the MINI! Honda’s were fast but blaaaah looking cars for sure! More fun watching the MINIs race!

A YouTube post to raise interest in the upcoming COTA race. They show 2 of the LAP MINIs. At least there is hope for them yet...

Thanks for the link. I was looking on YouTube this morning & couldn’t find anything. I thought the race was yesterday (Friday).

Hmmmmm....
Didn’t even think to check the race date. Yes, started yesterday and through the weekend:
https://world-challenge.com/schedule/

Odd that the video I linked to was posted yesterday. But then it makes some sense, otherwise how would you get the pre-race video.
So, hopefully this was eye candy for when they upload the whole race weekend...

There are two races per race weekend. The first is today at 2:35.

I always have up to date information on miniracefan.com

Race start time has been pushed back, probably due to the wet conditions. Looks like it will be at 3:30 now.

You’re welcome!

I’ve been told that the times SRO lists for events are in CST. so I guess there was no delay in the start.

I wish they they would make this information clearer.

But it if you watched the race it went pretty well. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s race!

I watched today's race and Pombo moved up 5 places. I think he finished second in his class. Pombo is a fantastic driver.

Yes he did! But, being front wheel drive, he had little in the tires left at the end to stave off the mighty Miata who was ******* his tail. A BRZ won and those will be tough for the MINI to beat. We’ll see as the season progresses.

Say, does anyone know why only 2 MINIs; not the 3 that ran in IMSA?

The BRZs are na/rear wheel drive, the MINIs are turbo/front wheel drive. This makes for a great race. And today's was a great race.

Their web page says 11:40 which is probably central time (12:40 east coast?)
I went to “tickets” then event schedule to get this...

So, from what I can tell, these races are streamed live, the schedule location is noted above. Dpcompt (above, https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4453922) has a great Fan page going. And if you miss a race, it is up on YouTube almost immediately.

For the second TC race, yesterday, it looks like it was a carbon copy of the first race. BRZ first, MINI second. I didn’t see the whole race, just the end results. Here is the YouTube link:

I’ll be watching later this week.

In addition, given the success of the LAP cars, I’m a bit surprised that no privateers elected to run MINIs.

Why no other teams

Bottom line, very little sponsorship from MINI.
I just do not understand BMW's lack of sponsorship for MINIs in racing or their wacky advertising ( i.e.the current TV add ).

Yes, both days. Blancpain GT series. The MINI did very well in both heats.

Well the GT cars are on YouTube but no MINIs! I watched both races and no MINI! They must have raced separately at COTA...anyone have the link?
