For me, Norwich CT or Rochester NY, it doesn't really care: there are both the same distance (or close) from Montreal. If Rochester dates are before Norwich, I will head to Rochester. So I will wait until dates will be confirmed.

So Jan is going to be in Rochester, NY? Has that date been decided?

No dates didn't confirm yet but it was said to me it should be somewhere in august.

I believe if you're going back to Jan for an updated tune, the cost is much less, correct?
Wow, your gonna have a killer MINI this summer

Thanks Dave!
I'm not even sure if I need to get retuned actually. I should really find out from Jan first before I do anything else. The other part of that is, if I need to get retuned, I'll probably want to snag the R53 Flash Tool as well.

It's funny, ever since the tune and the exhaust work, I barely hear the supercharger anymore. The engine is so much louder now, and I love it.

Mr Silverblood, I changed my header since last tuning event in Norwich CT and, like you, I traded the supercharger whine for a louder engine sound. In fact, I could hear the supercharger whine but I have to pay attention, otherwise it's loudest of my exhaust system covers the supercharger whine.

HeavyMetal (love the name BTW!),

Yeah, it's something that's not as audible as it used to be. lol
That and I recently had my resonator removed because it blew itself apart one morning (rusted up), so I have a straight mid-pipe heading to the mufflers.

Were you at the Norwich Tune this past May 2010? Or was that some other time before?

Mr Silverblood, I was there in the last tuning event in May 2010. Jan found out some problems on my MINI once he dyno-ed: broken hydrolic engine mount, oil leak, running too rich at ilde (it made the car stalled often) and a partically blocked pre-cat. You could easily imagine when Jan told me that. I was so pissed off. The speedshop who make my setup didn't do a good job. 2 mins after I picked up the car from the speedshop, the check engine light was ON. I called them within the minute and they replied to me it's normal because I am running lead and I need a tune ASAP. Next week, the car stalled at idle, once again they replied to me it's normal. Now I did all my fixes and now it runs great (around 2000$ in repair: replaced header, replaced AIR-PRESSURE sensor (it was that part who caused the check engine light ON, running rich and stalling at idle), replaced hydrolic top mount, seafoam the car, replaced a gasket under their recommendation (but in fact, the oil pan gasket was good and oil leak came from the bolt on the timing chain cover. Once I put the car at the dealer for the oil leak, they found out the oil leak was caused when the speedshop installed my cam, they put oil everywhere in the engine and that oil came out from that bolt, and I think it was also the source the blocked pre-cat)). By now, I am happy, everything is fixed and I will not go there anymore.

Here is the link for my header/exhaust pictures: http://www.rawtekinc.com/Mathieu%27s...ooper%20S.html

When I cruise, the exhaust isn't too loud but as soon I go full throttle it sounds like an exotic car (a F430 did fly-by next to me at full throttle, I did the same and I found out the sound was close enough).

For now, I know my exhaust system is illegal in my area (I work at the provincial police and I know what's illegal or not ). But I didn't get caught yet, so I will keep it like this.

My modifications are pretty close from yours, but I have a ported/polished head and 15% reduction pulley, everything else we share the same parts (or close).

I was there on Wednesday the 26th. Jan found a problem with my Mini as well...a plugged up catalytic converter. I can recommend that a Texas Speed Werks torque damper will help the longevity of your new hydraulic engine mount, BTW. It's really a great piece to add under the bonnet. Wow, you went to hell and back with your mods and that garage...sorry to hear that.

But yeah, I was just as pissed when Jan told me about the overboost code he got after he plugged into the Mini's computer port. And then my final HP number wasn't what I was hoping it would be, with the mods I have. Ended with only 193HP, which isn't horrible, but I should be 215+.

Sweet, I have a counter-part in Canada!

Mr Silverblood, I was thinking to replace the hydrolic engine top mount by the TSW one but I was in rush to repair it, so I went for the OEM. Next time, I will replace it by the TSW one.

Also, I pulled the resultat than you on the dyno: 193whp. I was so desappointed. On the next dyno, I hope to pull +220whp.

Next step, if you want to be my counter-part, you have to get that hat! Yup, I got one and I wear it when I drive top-down!

That makes me wonder if the same issues plagued our Mini's, therefore having a more free flowing catalytic converter and header will be just the thing we need to get back the va-va-vroom. :P

I have to say, that hat is AWESOME!!! Sadly I don't have a convertible Mini, but I've got the sunroof, and with the vinyl graphics on the car, I get quite a few stares. I think I may have found the proper hat. I don't suppose you could furnish me with a link?

About the TSW engine mount, I was referring to only a damper. It's basically a bolt on mod that works with the hydraulic mount to help prevent the engine from rocking during hard acceleration. It also helps prolong the engine mount too, as it's just an inferior design from Mini unfortunately.

Mr Silverblood, here is the link to order a hat like mine: http://knit-head.com/gsq.html Watch out for the price!!

Our issues were close the same, but I think mine were just a little worst (I had to replace the air-pressure sensor).

Mine is a 2005, the top engine mount could be different. I will look it up!

That's fvcking me!

Each time I wear, there is something funny happened to me like:
- When I wore it for the outdoor Iron Maiden show in Québec City, 5 Iron Maiden fans spoted me and gave me free beer because they like my hat so bad.
- When I wore it for the outdoor Megadeth/Slayer show in Montréal, people asked me to take pictures with them and got other free stuff!

There are only the last 2 examples, but I have more.

This hat is a "fun attraction"!

I don't suppose a list is being put together of the people who are definitely "in" for a tune session? Because I think that's what you need to get started (certainly correct me if I'm wrong) in order to get Jan on board so he can make the trip out to do it.

This post, along with the same post on MMC, was to ascertain how many people are interested in having Jan tune their car in the Boston area. I wanted to get some idea of numbers before contacting Jan. So far there have been 5 definite and 2 maybe responses, all from MMC. On tis thread I think there are 2 or 3 maybe responses.

I am now in the process of contacting Jan to see how many MINIs are needed to justify a tuning event. I also want to get a sense of timing for such an event if it is something that Jan is able to work into his schedule.

I agree with your comment about having a list of names of those that are definitely in. That will be the next step based on Jan's response. I think that having a date specified and a list of names will generate a bigger response.

I have had a number of remote tunes by Jan, and would love the chance to have one in person. I might be in if this works out.

My answer to a retune session with Jan hinged on getting in touch with him regarding the issues and upgrades with my Mini. He got back to me today, and now you can put me down as a definite "Yes".

Anything new to report on this?
I noticed Jan is going to Texas in October for a tune session, and that reminded me about this thread.
Still interested.

I am struggling to get sufficient interest in this tuning event. Regrettably, I am therefore going to have to cancel the idea.

If anyone else would like to pick up the thread and run with it to generate more interest, then please feel free to do so. Just let me know, becasue it is also posted on MMC and I wouldn't want to create any conflicts.
