Mr. CR (antsmini) - dry run 2
Description: With the trees bare and views unobstructed, we're going to take the back roads and some twisty lanes that weave around many of Westchester and Putnam counties' reservoirs. Catch the splendor of some of the largest reservoirs that feed the water needs of New York City and the surrounding region, and see some of the flowing spillways and majestic stone dams, including the historic New Croton Dam, that retain these reservoirs. Then take to the twisties of the Hudson Highland on some fun ribbons with elevation changes.
The 113 mile route will cover a variety of roads, including scenic divided highway, sinuous sweepers and narrow twisties. The rally will consist of 4 legs with a break in between each (lunch between 2 and 3):
1. Grand Reservoir Tour
2. Dam, More Reservoirs
3. Highland Twisties
4. Home Stretch
Starting and Ending point will be the Kensico Dam Plaza, in Valhalla NY:
(N 41° 4.3063 W 73° 46.1225)(UTM 18 603442E 4547455N).
Meet in the plaza parking lot @ 9:30 am -- we'll do a little pre-rally orientation and hand out rally information. Come with a full tank of gas and an empty bladder (although you may relieve yourself at the public facilities at the meeting place in the park). We start rolling at 10:00 am. Lunch at around noon (bring your own or buy at Wendy's, Quiznos, supermarket deli, pizza, Starbucks). Refill during lunch break if necessary. Continue rally after lunch, and end around 3:30 pm.
We'll be using 2-way radios -- so charge yours up and bring one (or two).

The BRP is closed on Sundays only during the summer months.
Unfortunately we won't be able to drive ACROSS any of the dams, since the DEP has closed those roads off since 9/11. However, we will visit many of those scenic locations, and the whole route should be quite nice.
Hope to see you there, and do bring lots of film!

we did a dry-run last sunday and, well, croton was blocked and looked like it hasn't been opened to vehicles for ages. It would have been cool tho - since by my calculations we could have lined up to 97 MINIs across the top of the dam - wow what a photo op there!!!
CT dams - eh, well I guess they just don't care over there...

****** F'er! Wait, maybe? Umm, sh*t...
So you understand my dilemma... my engagement party is that night in Providence, RI. Can I make both in the same day? Of course. Will I be scalped? Possibly. Worth it? ???
How long do you guys estimate the rally will last? Man, its been too long since I've rallied, plus now I'm pullied! Argh...

storer.
Cut the crap. Your car is well equipped to book all the way here and back by the time of any party. Be a dog. Or be like this: what the heck are you thinking even pretending to be able to pull off a caper like the one you're postulating? Your car will forgive you, will your fiancé?
Love to see you again either way, chap.

Yes its true... I drove all the way there with the MINI filled to the brim....unpacked...was depressed, repacked the MINI to the brim and drove all the way back. A waste of my time and mileage on my car. Not that there is anything here for me either but oh well.
