Navigation & Audio R60 speedo-only CarPlay
Hi all. Search doesn't not seem to bring up anything more or less recent OR something that would be about my spec.
Got a 2016 Countryman S All4 MT a few months ago, and want a screen instead of the very beautiful, but not very useful speedometer in the center. Yes, I got a BT adapter, it works fine, and I have a CD-slot phone mount, but I keep sometimes accidentally punching the phone when I try to grab the stick. I'm interested in something that will work smoothly with the car, still supporting the settings that are done through the radio controls right now, while allowing me to have wireless Apple CarPlay.
If anybody here has one of these two units, or had to choose between them, I would love to hear which and why you picked and what your experience with the unit has been like.
I'm looking at these two, both say they have 8-core CPU (my understanding is that's the important part?):
1) https://hifimaxnavi.com/products/9-b...39847690698846
Seems more slick (although I'm still confused why the "next" button is to the left of the "previous" button. Weird), 8GB+128GB, newer Android version (13), AFAIK shows MPH everywhere if specified in settings. The guy who runs this web site does provide support and actually responds to emails promptly. Also has YouTube channel with instructions. So far my main issue is that the trim is sort of like aluminum, but my interior trim is piano black and it looks awesome, so I'd like the new thing to match. I'm not sure I can cover that silverish trim myself. The seller doesn't do that kind of customization.
2) https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bremmen-...o/002480brp15/
The main plus here I think is that it's sold by ECS - my understanding is they are fairly reputable. It's 4GB+64GB, older Android (9), there are reports for this kind of unit that cruise control is in KPH, with everywhere else showing MPH. I generally don't use cruise control, but still... Seems like maybe it comes without that frame (the "ring" that holds the speedo and the vents), in which case my only annoyance would be the silverish outline of the buttons under the main screen. But I guess it sort of matches the logo on the steering wheel... I just don't know if there are any firmware/software support afterwards (I'm waiting for their response), or if it's even important.
I don't know if RAM and internal memory are that important for a unit that's just going to show me car settings and receive info from my phone via BT. I'm also not sure if Android version would be an issue, if, again, it's just car menus and Apple CarPlay. I will likely have the installer wire for backup camera, because why not and it shouldn't add that much compared to what I'm already looking at - both these options should work fine with the backup camera.
If anybody has experience with these, advice or opinion, that's be awesome
Thanks!
