Upgraded speakers?

First, I'm not all that unhappy with the OE sound system. I was a little surprised to see how few and how small the speakers were.

I've used Crutchfield for aftermarket audio for a lot of cars over the years. Never bothered in the Clubman. But out of curiosity, I looked up the CTM...you can buy speakers, but they don't fit the holes--you have to supply/rig/fabricate your own bracket, and there's no wiring harness--you have to cut off the OE plug and make your own connection.

WT*? So, I can't be the first Countryman owner to go down this road. What have others done? Who were your suppliers? Thx!

i got my speakers from crutchfield and they fit without a problem. i don't remember what model they were, but there were a couple threads around that referenced them.

Thanks for the link. I've pulled a lot of door panels; it looked like the door grilles would pop off, but I guess not. I do hate having to splice in though. I just prefer easily reversible mods.

I installed Polk 4.5" in all 4 doors.. total about 15 minutes per door. you do need to splice the wires . You don't need to cut the factory connectors off though, just wrap them up and then you can go back to stock anytime.

Thanks for that piece of data. You did have to pull the door panels, though, right? What did you have to do for bracketry?

Yes I did pull the panels... not hard with non metallic panel tools cheap at any auto parts store, The factory speakers have 3 holes not four and you can get 3 of 4 on the replacements to line up and use the original nuts to hold them in place.

I think theres a video somewhere on how to pull the panels.

I'll look for the vid.

No probs with vibration or noise with one corner of the speaker "loose?"
