Chances are, if you have a bluetooth phone it has an option to allow automatic paring. Look in your options or set-up on the phone.

The whole point of bluetooth is to not have to "plug anything in", although the snap in adapter does charge the phone, and use the MINI's external antenna.
How did you get the sleeve out of the armrest?

I have the connecting sleeve. It works

I use a Nokia 6230i phone (about two years old but lots of features) and it has a sleeve made for it by BMW. BMW sleeves are like $150.00. My car came used with that sleeve so I bought that phone and it works great.

Probably your "older" phone. I just picked up my mini, took me about 20 seconds to pair my Blackjack, and it works like a charm.

Turns out the bluetooth power on my cell phone was not set to "on" 100% of the time, which is what caused me to have to manually intervene in order to get my phone to pair with my car's bluetoogh (by turning on the power). Works like a charm now.

To remove the sleeve from the armrest, pull the cover of the armrest back to the full open position. Then, you're supposed to be able to pull it back a little further (straight back, not up or slanted). At that point, you are supposed to be able to pull the front part of the cover of the armrest upwards slightly so that the cover is now slanted backward (while the armrest itself remains level). This gives you the access to slide the adapter backwards, out of the "plug", and then lift it out.

That's how the service manager described it to me, at least. My insert/adapter for my Motorola e815 is still on order so I haven't been able to test this thoroughly.

Minimaniac, you are referring to the phone adapter being removed which is made to come in and out. They/we are talking about removing the entire lining inside the compartment. The part that you slide your adapter into (when you get it), to make more room.

Coffee,
Do you think you would be able to buy a replacement insert after destroying it to get it out, and re-install it ok? I am thinking I will remove it/destroy it, if I could replace it in the future assuming someday I might get a "compatible phone with adapter"... what d oyou think?

And, could you post a pic of what the cable(s) look like?

It's a BMW part, number 84210415023. You can find it here:

Blue tooth at last

Thanks for your list of compatible cell phones. I got the newer razr V9 and it works like a dream. My nightmare is over and my old cell phone is on Craig's list. Thanks for your post.

You will need to call your dealer directly for other carriers:

Motorola Q
Motorola Razr V3
Blackberry 7130
Motorola E815
The "new" motorola Razr (I'm not sure which one this is, though)
Trio (not sure which model)
Motorola V330 (he called it the V thirty-three zero)
