Navigation & Audio NAV system, crappy map coverage
Another topic. I picked up my Mini 3 days ago. I was able to get a Mini way ahead of schedule when someone cancelled his order. The minor downside is that I got a NAV system that I didn't necessarily want or need. Don't get me wrong, I love gadgets. It's just that I live in a town of about 50k and it's pretty much impossible to get lost.
My concern is that the NAV CD of my city is terrible. Streets that have existed for 25 years are not on my map. The $1600 option is pretty much worthless. Love the car though. Anyone with advice?

I have the same situation for local driving. However, what do I need NAV for when I'm around home? I use it when I'm motoring to new and exciting places! It has proved more than worth the money for me in just two trips! My wife can't read a map in the car without getting carsick, and it's just not practical when your driving. To have Molly (that's her name) tell me each step of the way - especially with that British accent - and not even have to look away from the road is absolutely wonderful! I got it because I'm a gadget guy - I never thought it would be so darn practical!!! I can't wait to see, however, if there will be an opportunity to upgrade to a DVD based system which will provide substantially more detail. Also, the literature and website (NAVTech.com) for the NAV system software explain that new cities are constantly being added based on demand. I would make a habit of sending NAVtech regular email asking for your city to be added - the "squeaky wheel" theory.
Any others with NAV experiences or thougthts?
