Well I will be putting Polk Audio 6 x 9's in the rear and 1" tweeters. The connectors Crutchfield sent me were not compatible with the connectors in the Mini. Same style, they were just a little big. There was no +/- markings on the 6 x 9 speakers or wiring at all. Had to do a battery test on the stock spkrs to find out what was what. In the end, the brown wires on the 6 x 9's were the negatives. Will be doing a little cutting of wires and getting the spkrs installed over the next few days. Will post pics and follow up shortly.

Test drove the polks, being 4 ohm speakers, they did not cut it at all. Have sent them back to their maker. I now am awaiting some Infinity Kappa's, these are 2 ohm speakers. I tested some at a dealer and they sounded awesome. When will they get here.

Can the built-in amp handle 2 ohm?

The 6 x 9's I removed ohm checked at about 2.3 ohms. MiketheMini on the Mini2 site got roughly the same thing. I would assume the system is a 2ohm system. Assumptions!

From everything that I have researched on both sites, they are 2 ohm speakers. Do you have the standard Audio or do you have the Hi Fi upgrade?

Aron of OutMotoring found the standard speakers to be 4 ohm. So, I assume you are talking about the HIFI?

I measured the front stock hifi speakers at slightly under 2 ohms.

I did measure the tweeters tonight, they say 4 ohms, I got 5 ohms. Talked to a gentleman at Harman Becker. He's looking into some info for me reference the Hi-Fi system and ohmage. He says to get the real ohms, the speakers must be playing, I ohmed them on the table top unconnected. Hopefully I will hear from him again. I also got a email from a lady at HB aftermarket audio division, she stated "In any event, our aftermarket 2 ohm speakers will work fine with head units that are 4 ohms". They make Infinity's, so I think they will work ok. I just don't wanna kill the amp.

The lady is asking for a lawsuit the first time someone frys their headunit for connecting 2 ohm speakers to it.

Sure the speakers work fine with the headunit, but the headunit doesn't work fine with 2 ohm speakers. (in general)

The HiFi amp should be fine with them though.

I printed out her email and will definitely save it. You scare me with your comment but reassure me again with your last sentence. I bought the Infinity's. I think I will be alright in the end.

You will not de disappointed with the infinitys. I have the 6x9 2 ways in back plus CDT 6 6 1/2 inch up front with 4 tweeters. look up CDT speakers , The speakers have a very good sound , and you can add more speakers to their componet sets and upgrade too. I almost forgot , For the subs , I have 2 Rockford fosgate 15 inch Hx2 power subs powered with a RF t1500 amp.I would ditch all the stock stuff . You will be suprised ,how much better it will sound.

hey guys i use to be a car stereo installer for four years until i joined the military. replacing the stock speakers should be the first way to go, and what every you do, do not amp the stock speakers. stock speakers are made to work with the watts that the stock amp is pushing or head unit. stock speakers are always cheap no matter how much you pay for it. putting small subs in the front would be nice for concealing but probably a pain ( and require some sort of fabrication). i would suggest sub in the back it would be alot easier and you can put in a bigger sub wich means deeper bass. i liked the idea of in the floor of the hatch and bring it level with the back seats that would look real clean and allow for more space for the amps and cap wich if you do a sub you almost always need one. i haven't really dived into my new mini yet i have only had it for 2 weeks but when i do i will post my thoughts and ideas and any spec that could be helpfull.

Any of you guys trust the car guys at Best Buy to work on your car? Or would you rather go to a specialized car audio joint?

For a radio replacement, they are just OK. For anything custom or slick, find a reputable place that has been around awhile.

I wouldn't let them touch the headunit in an 07 though!

You're right, no touching an 07's head. (at this time anyway) I was thinking of an 06 or earlier.

This is the most ridiculous scenario I have ever heard. Pay $500 for a useless upgrade. Then pay who the hell know's how much more for a decent sounding system.

I have an 05 S with HK and was going to purchase an 07 S.
I am seriously considering purchasing another vehicle.
This is total utter ********. :impatient

If the radio is your main consideration in car then by all means buy something else that comes with a great system.
/sarcasm Perhaps one with the "spectacular" bose system. /sarcasm

I'll happily upgrade the system in a MINI to have both a MINI and a kickin system. I'd rather do that than have a great stock stereo and crappy handling.

It's not my main consideration, but driving an hour and 15 minutes one way every day, it is high on the list.
The idea of having to upgrade a $500 upgrade is ludicrous.

Well the rear speaker install is complete. I installed Infinity Kappa 693.7i and 10.7T in the rear. The car is all back together, (wife is happy). Just broke one small clip. I'm very happy. I came up with numerous locations to put the tweeters, some were just to tuff to do the install. I like the final position I came up with, right at head level when someone sits in the back seat, (That won't happen to much). I am still running the stock amp, things sound alot better at this time and I'm sure will get even better when the front speakers are changed out. Some years down the road, the amp will be changed out. Time to start on the front.

You don't "have" to upgrade. The "$500 upgrade" gets you two tweeters and an amp, and it's definitely not "useless". For a factory upgrade, it's reasonably priced and sounds very good. It doesn't sound like a few-thousand-dollar custom system.
