Well guys can i get it? If I get the factory i-Pod adaptor can I see the song name and what not on the HU? I pretty sure I can change the songs with the MFSW, right?

Not from the OEM iPod adapter, no. The OEM BMW/MINI one is terrible... bare minimum functionality. It emulates a CD-changer, with these limitations:
  1. "Locks" the iPod while in use so that you can't choose a song from it or even see what's playing on the iPod screen.
  2. Requires you to define very specific playlists in advance using iTunes. Each of those playlists show up as a separate "CD" to the head unit. You can't just pick any album or song on the iPod at a moments notice.
  3. Does not show you the name of the song on your head unit. It just shows you a "CD number" (i.e. playlist number) and track number.
I'm usually all for OEM products (after all, my car is even named "Mr. OEM"), but this is one case where aftermarket is definitely the way to go, and it appears that the Dension DICE adapter is the best solution!

Yep, same problem, but you'll at least get to see the info on your iPod screen, and also be able to choose any album & song, which the OEM one doesn't let you.

The song name problem isn't the DICE's fault - you just need a new enough head unit (04/2005 and newer). I'm in the same situation, as my head unit is older than that as well.

You can always replace your head unit to gain the functionality though... I plan on doing that at some point.

"The OEM BMW/MINI one is terrible"

OMG, that is such an understatement.

What exactly is the difference between the pre 05 HU’s and the 05 and newer HU’s? (Slight hijack) What is the “HD Radio”? Some of the stations in my area will show the song title and artist on my stock stereo. Does that mean there may be a slight chance that I might get CD-text?
