I would like to put an amp in the car back where the HK AMP sits. I do not have the HK system. Does anyone know of an amp (4 channel I guess) that would fit in that little cubbyhole?

Thanks!

Welcome to MCO GoMiniGo!

Check this out. Blaupunkt makes one that fits exactly where you are thinking about...

The amp in the HK system has DSP with equalization, filtering (crossovers), and other vehicle specific DSP "optimization". Also, it's an 8 channel amp. If you throw it out, you're throwing out a lot.

What bothers you about the sound of the system that you want to fix by replacing the amps?

tacotim-
I think GoMiniGo has a regular stock audio system- not HK and wants to add just an amp in the rear side boot area where the amp sits in the HK system.

So is there an amp that might work for this application? I would guess 4 channel unless you want to also add a subwoofer which could be done if it is a powered subwoofer that plugs into the new amp. Since the subwoofer would fit in the boot then the amp being there is OK but the subwoofer takes up space and you loose the stealthy look of the hidden amp in the side storage area.

I think tacotim is not really up on the latest consumer stuff- but he knows audio- lets team up to solve this question-

tacotim: dare I ask how you know that, since you don't have your MINI yet? Do you also know what amplifier topology is being used?

back to GoMiniGo's question: Blaupunkts Class-T amps are very compact, and do not require their plastic case for operation or heatsinking. Crutchfield and Parts Express carries them.

Cheers,
Ryan
