TomTom 6 & Treo smartphone

Is anyone using TomTom 6 navigation system paired with a Treo smartphone? I know it's available, but would like to know how easy it is to use. Everytime I read the claim "Easy to use right out of the box" I know someone is lying.

I have it and really like it when I do use it. What kind of specifics do you want? It is somewhat easy to get going. Where are you looking at buying it from, I think three versions of GPS units exist.

I use my phone too much and the Tom Tom didn't make sense, I went with the Nuvi 360 and absolutely love it.

Don't get a Treo 700w. I am on my second one (I made them replace the first one that died), and it sucks. The PDA functionality is great, but half the time I can't answer when someone calls, I have to reboot it about once a day due to freezing or inability to hang up a call, and it takes forever to launch applications. You have to "stop" running programs (think a mobile version of ctrl+alt+del "end task"), since they stay running if you close them. The wireless sync feature seems to sync whenever it feels like it (syncing every time you want to use something, but doens't sync for hours when you are expecting an email).

I can only imagine the horror of trying to run GPS software on it.

I've been running a Treo 650 for almost two years and after a few early hiccups, it's absolutely great. Which is why I'm sort of questioning why I'm moving to the 680, but the memory and the BT1.2 has me ready for an upgrade. I have also heard bad things about he 700p.
I run GoodLink and between that and the phone, wouldn't have time to effectively use it as a Nav tool.

I tend to agree with TC on this. If you are looking to use both your phone and navigation a lot, I would go a different route. I got the navigation with the coupon Palm sent to me with the Treo (650), which brought the price down to just over 100$. I don't spend my entire day on the phone so it doesn't impact me much from that perspective.

GPS & Smart phone

Kirby -- Uh, what exactly did you mean when you said it was "somewhat easy to get going?" I haven't decided where I'm getting it from. Any great ideas? I've been looking at various sites on the Internet. I don't use my phone a lot. I got the Palm 700p because I needed it for email on a 2- 1/2 month driving trip around the country. It worked in places where my Mac couldn't get Wi-Fi. I'm looking at the TomTom 6 instead of version 5 because the newer version uses a small SD card, while version 5 loads maps from CDs. The difference in price was something like $50. For $14 extra, there's a dual plug that plugs into the cigarette lighter for both the phone and the GPS unit. I travel a great deal on back roads and was wondering if the TomTom also lists the blue highways along with the Interstates. I'm a writer and interview people all over the place.

It installed very easy on my 650, you just need to follow the instructions specifically. I use v6 as well. I have not gone on any long road trips with it, but have not found any issues with the roads shown/selected. TomTom is TomTom, the maps you use on your phone is the same as what the TomTom has with their units. It has some nice features night mode, favorites, Points of interest, and alternate route to name a few. The only thing I'm not big on is when a call comes in while you are using the GPS. It is a little odd navigating back to the map, easier just to stop the car and take care of it. Like I said, for the 129.00 I spent on it, it does great and is just what I was looking for. PM me if you decide to order it from Palm direct, may be able to save some money. -Jeff (Kirby is the car)
