Help on 5G iPod connection

Hi
I had just installed the Mini factory ipod adaptor myself and when I plug in my 5G Ipod video, it didn't seem to connect w/ my stereo headunit. Then I try it with my cousin's ipod mini and it worked. Then I try to create the MINI playlist as instructed on the manu, but still nothing. It seems to charge the ipod when I connect and it worked w/ the ipod mini, so I think I installed the adaptor correctly. Anyone has similar problems? any thoughts??
thank you

That's interesting that it would work with the iPod Mini and not your video iPod. My wife and I both have the dealer-installed iPod adaptors in our Minis, and we both have 60GB video iPods that work with no problems. I wish I had some better suggestions, but all I can say is that the BMW iPod adaptor should work with your 5G.

Is your video iPod the "late 2006" model, the one available in 30GB or 80GB? Ours are the early ones that came in 30GB or 60GB, but I hadn't heard about any differences in the dock connector for the newer ones.

Scott,
mine was the earlier version like yours.

Did you jsut upgrade your 5G's firmware to 1.2? There are reported cases of v1.2 crashing the BMW's version, which the MINI kit is based upon.

If so, we can create a tutorial on how to downgrade your firmware.

Try rebooting the iPod by pressing the CENTER and MENU buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the dock connector after the reboot process is completed.

A simple reboot may be what you need.

Tom,

I tried reboot the ipod, and I also reset the setting on my ipod. still nothing.
I borrowed my co-workers ipod mini, and it worked fine......so, I am pretty sure it is my ipod video.

There are 2 ways to do this: The simplest way to do this is without having to edit anything yourself (For Windows). And the other ways it to do some file-editing in your ipod (For Windows and Mac)
  • The first way: Used iPod Wizard, and the old iPod updater.
This will work for any Windows iPod.

Click to download 2005-11-17 Updater for Windows From MegaUpload

Click to download iPodWizard (v1.1) Release From iPodWizard
    1. Now that you have both programs, plug in your iPod (close iTunes)
Now open iPodWizard.exe and the program will pop up.
Look on the right side you'll see a section that says "iPodWizard Essentials", Click "Refresh Status". After the program finds your iPod click "Downgrade Firmware"
After this is complete, do the downgrad at least 1 more time, then close iPodWizard.
    2. Install the 2005-11-17 Updater. Next, when it is finished installing, restart your comptuer. After the reboot, run the program that you just installed. When it loads, click "Update". Once the program says the update is complete, your iPod has been downgraded.
    Congrats, you are done.
  • The Second Way: Edit files and the old iPod updater.
These are the directions only for the Video iPod.

Click to download 2005-11-17 Updater for Windows From MegaUpload

Click to download 2005-11-17 Updater for Mac From Softpedia
    1. Your iPod needs to be in disk mode (look in iTunes Preferences, under iPod tab) and you need to have your computer set to View Hidden files.

Now navigate to My Computer and open your iPod navigate to iPod_Control\Device
      Open SysInfo with Notepad.

      Find and change
      buildID: 0x06108000
      to
      buildID: 0x05908000
    2. This will trick the iPod Updater into thinking you have an old firmware.
Install the 2005-11-17 Updater. Next, when it is finished installing, restart your comptuer. After the reboot, run the program that you just installed. When it loads, click "Update". Once the program says the update is complete, your iPod has been downgraded.
    Congrats, you are done.

Keep In mind that you are messing with your iPod's filesystem, be careful and make sure you have a backup of your music.
