MINI says there are eight speakers in the HK system but I only count six just like the stock one. Anyone know where these other two speakers are?

 

Actually, this has been in a couple other threads, but not having searched for them myself I suppose it could have been buried in some obscure place....

Anyhow, the rear speakers are two-way speakers. Count each as 2.

the back speakers are just 2 way 6x9's!
kind of misleading if you ask me!

 

I called the ASK-MINI number and asked them this same question. The reply was that there is a mid-range speaker behind each door handle but they have no mesh opening. I thought that was weird, but i don't really know anything about stereos. can that be right?

Stock stereo in all MINIs: 1 tweeter and 1 mid/bass in each door, 1 mid/bass in each rear seat side panel, for a total of 6 drivers.

H/K stereo in all MINIs: 1 tweeter and 1 mid/bass in each door, 1 coaxial unit in each rear seat side panel consisting of 1 woofer and 1 midrange, for a total of 8 drivers.
