Unfortunately I blew out the tweeter on the driver side next to the door handle. I called my dealer thinking it would be covered by the warranty but since I have an after market amp installed the warranty has been voided!!

They said it would be $105 for the tweeter and another $50-60 for installation, bringing it to grand total of $155-165 for repairs . Thats alot of money for such a little speaker.

I could just forget about getting H/K and get JL, but I would like to keep the H/K theme for all my components.

Anyone know the part number, size, or wattage of the factory H/K tweeters in an 06??

 

And you're surprised about that? The amp is probably too powerful for the speakers. When you upgraded the amp, you probably should have put in higher rated speakers at the same time - just IMO. I don't think it was reasonable to expect the warranty to cover the speakers after you put in a different amp.Actually, I don't think that's so bad, considering it's a matched speaker for the system (and the car). Harman/Kardon did a lot of research and acoustic testing when designing their system for the MINI... and the speakers are of pretty decent quality. However, if you're going to continue with the aftermarket amp, maybe it's time for ALL new speakers? Well, all components except the amp, right? Seriously, if you like JL, I suggest you buy a full complement of them, that are rated and matched to your new amp, and just give up on the H/K. I would not recommend buying just one of any other tweeter and putting it in there, because it will have very different tonal qualities, and it won't match... music just won't sound balanced.Unfortunately, no.
