Infinity Basslink Problem

I installed it this morning. Only bashed one knuckle. I used the line level inputs from my rear speakers (non HK). When I turn off my car The Basslink gets insane feedback. I have to unplug the inputs or move it away from my battery. The Positive connection is on the battery post and the negative grounds where the negative post grounds in the trunk. I've done subs and amps and headunits before and never ran into this problem. Anyone else?
thanks for helpin'

Could be that they're sharing the same ground? (wait... is this an MCS?)

Take off the back driver side panel in the boot and look in there, slightly towards the front. You'll see another grounding spot in there (bunch of brown wires coming from it). You could try grounding there and see if it makes any difference.

I have heard people having problems with the speaker level inputs on the Basslink with the mini. To avoid this problem, you have two options:

1. I used a seperate line level converter from Navone Engineering http://www.autosound2000.com/adaptor_products.htm.

The NE-7V is what you want. These converters are much better quality than the ones that came in the basslink.

2. In my Basslink II manual troubleshooting section, it mentions a condition just like yours..."Basslink produces a loud humming sound with the system off when using the speaker level inputs".."this is a problem caused by a feedback loop between your speakers and the basslink."
The solution they offer:
"Connect capacitors (100uf 16v) between each of the speaker outputs of the head unit and the speakers positive lead. Connect the positive leads of the basslink's high-level inputs to the head-unit side of the capacitors. Use one capacitor for each channel"

I prefer my solution..

Here is the problem: with the system off and power still going to the basslink, your speakers essentially become microphones which the basslink then amplifies creating feedback. I dont think moving your ground will help...

The basslink doesn't shut off with the car?

Good question. The REM input on the basslink should connect with a switched power line such as the lighter socket in the boot.

I didn't have a remote wire hooked up because of the auto on and off with the line lvl inputs. i'll hook one up and turn the auto on off.

Got it. I moved the ground and ran a remote wire. Turned the auto on off. Thanks for the help guys. Now I really need to go shopping for some add-a-circuits. Too many wires just sticking into fuses.

How are you guys mounting the basslink in your Minis? I want to add one to mine but not sure where to put it.

Thanks!

I guess my concern is what space is left for putting shopping bags...

I've heard of people mounting it against the back of one of the backseats... Will it fit vertically against the side or is it too wide?

It will fit just fine vertically facing sideways. The basslink dimensions are very convenient to the mini.
