iPod won't mount?...

This was happening once in a while, but now it’s happening all the time.
When I plug my ipod into my OEM adapter nothing happens. The screen on the ipod says the same. Never says MINI on the screen. But when you try and switch the inputs to ipod it will go to it, but it says there are 99 disks. And when you press one of 1-6 to get a disk it says NO DISK. I have tried turning the HU off and on. Resetting the ipod, and unplugging it. I have also tried 2 different ipods with the same affect.
Anyone else have this happen? What did you do to fix it?\
Geno.

I don't have that exact problem, but it sounds similar. I leave my iPod connected all the time in the glove box to the OEM connector. If I don't use it for several days, and then press the mode switch to select the iPod, I will often get a "no disc" message. At this point, if I turn off the head unit, and then unplug the iPod and plug it back in, turn the head unit back on, things usually work. At all times my iPod does say "MINI" on the interface, not sure what that means.

Ok now I know it's not my ipod. Even when the ipod isn't plugged in, when you switch inputs it still says the ipod is plugged in and has 99 disks. What is up?! No one else has had this problem?

I so don't want to take my car in to the deal (MINI of SF) because they are SLOW!!

I've had similar problems with my OEM adaptor since I first got my MINI (March '06). My iPod always changes it's display to MINI and "okay to disconnect" but there's a 50% chance that the head unit will actually know it's there. About half the time I have to unplug the iPod, then plug it back in, wait a few moments, then try the HU again. It usually works this second time, but I sometimes need to try a third.

What's even more aggrivating is that when it does finally work, it sometimes just goes silent for no reason. Could be after 30 minutes of playing, 10 minutes, or even just two minutes. Don't know why.

These last two things always happen:

When disconnecting (with HU on or off, or ignition on or off), my iPod never recovers from MINI mode. I always have to force reboot by holding Menu & Select keys down for 5 seconds. Reboot takes 75-90 seconds on my 5G iPod. Is this normal??? I've not heard from others on this.

And finally, it doesn't ever charge my iPod.

I have an appointment with my dealer to look it over next Tuesday morning. I'm somewhat hoping for a quick fix to these problems. Yet I'm also tempted to just ask for my money back and try a 3rd party solution because they're so much more elegent and complete. This OEM adaptor is the only beef I have with my MINI. It's definitely inferior to what's out there, even if it was working like the manual promises.

Mine, 3rd Gen iPod, works all the time when I plug it in. It charges all the time. The problem I have is that sometimes, could be 30 minutes or 3 days, all of a sudden while listening to the iPod, the HU will switch to radio, and no longer recognize the iPod.

I then, usually at a light, unplug and replug the iPod, without turning of the HU or car, and all is again fine for some random period of time.

It always says MINI-OK disconnect when connected, and immediatly returns to normal iPod operation after I unplug it.

Fixed it! Woo Hoo!

I unplugged the battery. Let it sit for a bit (like 15 mins) and let everything reset. Plugged the battery back in. Let sit for a bit more for everything to boot back up.

And then plugged my ipod in. Worked like it should.

I just got back from the dealership and all seems well. After a twenty minute drive, I had no more awkward symptoms and it worked just as the manual said it would. I still would like to have a 3rd party solution over this one, but at least now I'm getting what I paid for.
