I have the DICE unit, the IPOD connect and those make sense to me, but there is a cord and with two black larger box type connectors attached to an insultated cord... looks like you plug both of those together (male and female) and then insert the 3 and 6 pin MINI connectors into the white connection on one of these pieces? Did anyone else get this in their kit? Not sure where to plug the MINI CD Changer connection into and just want to make I dont screw this thing up. Anyone have pics they can share on how it should look? Help if you can.

KD

BTW - No Nav, no CD changer, no HK. Just stock setup with multifunction stearing wheel.
What they sent you is the radio harness not the trunk harness, same thing happened to me. What you do is remove the 2 side pillars and the 4 screws which hold the radio. Carefully remove the radio, there is a little cable which is the antenna which needs to be romoved carefully. Unplug the factory harness and insert the harness that they sent you into the middle. Since you don't have NAV you would be finished. Put it back together.

If you had NAV you need to move a connector to jumper the NAV voice back to the radio and the text wouldn't work any longer if the NAV is being used. Good luck!

Do you have NAV? If so, please describe the operation. How easy is it to switch between NAV and text on the screen? When you use NAV, does any text display on the head unit?

Edit: I found your earlier post. Did you have any resolution to those issues?

The iPod should be up front with you - it makes the kit MUCH easier to use if a passenger is with you or connecting/disconnecting the iPod without going to the boot every time.

If you prefer the trunk interface kit, we can provide the wiring also.

Hey there
I was one of the early adopters for the DICE unit, and have loved it since day one. That said, I noticed some new behavior this last week. Text display disappeared. Anyone see this happen? 06 MCS. I did have the Parrot EVO kit and MFSW adapter put in, but it WAS working flawlessly after that... until now.

I've been doing a bit of trial and error to see if i can get the text back...

Anyone see this behavior?

Oh, no nav, BTW.

There was a similiar problem on an X3, when a Bluetooth call came in, the text was cleared. Can you confirm on your end?

In the meantime, this has been resolved with a firmware fix.

Dension and DICE are two different companies. Where was the kit ordered from and did you receive a Trunk interface or Radio interface kit?

It was ordered from diceelectronics in Lake Tahoe, NV. As far as interface goes, i'm assuming it is the trunk kit as the cloth wrapped cables are about 15 foot long.

Your connections will be in the boot area on the passenger side. Simply connect the 3/6 pin connectors and route the cable where you would like the iPod to reside.

I had this same problem with my first DICE HD module. I had to return it for a replacement unit. The problem is heat related on the units with the firmware version of HD0001. I have a new one and it seems OK for now. Just dealing with a bad hum when connected to the iPod.

On my end (again, DICE (version 2 replacement module) with Parrot EVO and MFSW integration kits, stock radio, no changer, no nav)
the situation is reasonably normal playing, navigation and interfacing behavior with the Dice, but simply that the text tags disappeared.
I do see a message on the radio when the BT phone is in use, but then it just returns to whatever was on the radio before, either FM, CD or the 'Track XX' of the DICE's info, whatever that happened to be. But no more text tags. I'm trying to understand if it's a DICE problem or not...
I've pulled and reconnected the DICE module, still no text. Before I head back to my stereo installer, I thought I'd contnue researching it...

Yep. I'm an idiot.
I, or my wife, must have mashed CD06 button at some point, diabling text.
All's better now!

Once again, i highly endorse the DICE product. Love it.

Had ICElink, seems broken, need replacement - help!

I have an '04 Cooper (and I love it, of course) with the HK sound upgrade, and had installed an ICElink connector (the one that had an integrated iPod holder and was controllable by the steering wheel).

It seems to have gone kaput. My dealership checked the connections, etc. and says it seems to be the unit itself.

So, I need a replacement. From what I've seen on here it looks like the DICE is the best option (but am more than willing to entertain alternatives).

What I'd like (in some hypothetical universe) is:
  • my iPod held nicely for me
  • my song names on my radio display (no, the ICE didn't have this)
  • iPod charged automatically
  • iPod shut off when car is off
  • ability to control iPod via steering wheel (min: volume, songs forward and back, but other controls would be nice too)
I *think* I can manage the installation (I've replaced a head unit before, albeit in a Saturn).

I'd love some advice on (a) is DICE the answer (b) will it do what I want (c) exactly what do I need to buy (cables, mounting thingy [that's the technical term], DICE itself, others?) and (d) any recommendations on from whom.

Many thanks in advance!

This means you will need an April 2005 radio or later build for text display, your 2002 model is not compatible for text display. You will still have text display on the iPod and steering wheel control.

Hi everyone, just wondering if there's any update on getting the DICE to display text on the stereo properly with factory nav?

In development at the moment, we will report as soon as there is a solution.

Cool. I'm in the UK using a Dension ice>Link Plus. Dension can't seem to (or won't) do it, so I'll be very impressed if it can be sorted on the DICE, and I'll probably be looking at shipping one over.

Got my DICE yesterday for my '06! I read up on the radio removal and learned I only had to unscrew the down tubes to get to the radio mount screws! No gear shift, etc. removal!

Tom at aes has been awesome. Super fast (and patient) with responses to questions.

Anyway, I was trying to figure out the Album browse (with Tom's help) and I have a tip! It may already be here somewhere :impatient but it's a massive thread!

The Album browse, I learned, is from within a Playlist. Therefore, Tom suggested creating a playlist of your entire library. Here are the steps I took and what made it work best with the Album browse.

BEFORE you create the Playlist with your entire iTunes library (I named it "1st" to put it at the top of the Playlist list) sort the Album column alphabetically by clicking on the bar at the top of the column. (There are three options: Album, Album by Artist and Album by Year). Use the "Album" sort option.

In the car, when playing the "entire library " playlist, choose Disc 3 (Album browse option). When you choose "next track" it THEN goes to the next album. If you don't create your list per the abovve, it will go to the next track in the playlist. If you have an iPod Video, you can see that it jumps from Track 1 to Track 14 (for example).

Always fun to learn more about your iPod and DICE.

Tom,

We've been hearing the same tired song about, help being on the way since almost a year from both you and Dice. The truth is that it's all "Vaporware".

You should be be honest and remove your claim about song title display on the Nav from the advertisements. Please no more bogus promises.

Not true at all, but you'll hear when the problem is solved here on the forums.
