New Dice not working. Help!

My wife just gave me a BMW-T Dice for my birthday; hooked it up on my 06 Checkmate and the HK system does not recognize it (no disc). Re-checked everything, removed the fuse (and re-inserted) from the radio, checked the fuse on the Dice harness, checked all plugs, still nothing. The only thing that I can see is that occasionally it shows the iPod charging.
By the way, I have a 20G iPod with version 3.1.1
Any thoughts out there? Defective unit?
I also tried my wifes Nano with the same results...
Thanks,
Marty

Is your connection to the radio head or to the CD changer connector in the rear?

I've been eyeing this thread for a while. I've got an 11/2003 MCS and I'd love to get an ipod adapter. What would you see in the display of the older radio head? Anything at all to help w/ navigating through the ipod?

Also, does anyone have a link to the installation instructions for this? I've confirmed that I've got the CD changer wiring in the boot. Any permanent modification to the vehicle's wiring?

There doesn't appear to be any installation instructions for a Mini. I've been to both the DICE Electronics site and the EAS site, lots about BMW, ACURA, Audi but nothing about a Mini. Heck, I can't even get EAS to respond to email.

Yeah well, today IS the 26th of Dec and I'm still waiting. Do you happen to work for EAS?

We were away for the holiday weekend (well deserved), but are catching up on email in the meantime. However, I cannot relate the email with a screen name.

PM me your email address or resend the email and I will answer it immediately.

We have instructions for BMW, but not specifically for the MINI yet - features are very similar though.

The pre 4/2005 HUs are not capable of displaying text. You will only see a CD-01, 02 when tracks are selected.

As for installation - we have kits to attach directly at the HU or at the CD Changer connections in the boot, whichever is easier for you.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

So does the installation involve any cutting, drilling, or any other permanent modifications to the vehicle? Is the module small enough so that it can be hidden behind one of the panels (I have H/K, so the space in the passenger side boot panel is occupied by the HK amp).

Basically I'm looking for something that has more functionality than the OEM iPod adapter, but won't require me to make any permanent modifications to my Mini.

Also, if I were to somehow find a post 4/2005 HU - is this all I would need to display text?

Yes - 04/2005+ radios with a SV of 50 or higher will display text. The DICE module will be in the cabin area with you and can be hidden about anywhere - it's about the size of a deck of cards.

The DICE offers much more than the factory unit, it is a true MINI solution.

So are these wiring kits pretty much just plug and play? Would I lose CD changer functionality with either of these two wiring kits?

Either connection replaces the CD Changer since we are emulating that device.

No, I don't... but I felt it relevant to point out that the timing of your emails was particularly difficult, since it was the holiday weekend. Surely you can understand that. As we can see from the messages above, they are hard at work catching up now, so you should be able to answers more readily.

I installed my DICE IPOD unit tonight, it works okay. The sound is good but the text display is very erratic. It will display song titles but only on both the NAV and radio. If I switch the NAVI map or guidance back on by selecting with the MENU button. The Nav text goes completely away from both displays. Getting the text to return requires that I bounce from FM to CD and back to the CD Charger mode a couple of times. The instructions from DICE are BMW specific not to Mini which is a problem, there could be something that I should be doing but I'm not. I tried selecting Disk 6 and toggling through the various tracks as per the BMW instructions but it doesn't make a difference.

On 3-series applications when this happens - the NAV needs to be told what priority to use the text in. In my M3, I use the following steps:

Select>GPS NAVIGATION>MAP

This tells the NAV that the MAP is #1 priority. Can you try this to see if it applies to your MINI as well? If you would like personal assistance, give me a call tomorrow morning and we'll go over the features in real time.

I was just wondering if anyone noticed a small amount of noise or feedback when you push pause and turn the radio all the way up or between songs. The noise is always there, just covered up by the music except in quite parts of certain songs. It seems to have something to do with the steering wheel control. Other then that the Dice is awsome.

The DICE could be picking up interference from other devices in the vehicle. You can try relocating the wire to see if the noise is diminished or if you cannot find the source of the noise - a ground loop isolator must be used.

Some MINIs are more sensitive to engine noise than others. Here is a link to the version we offer on the website:

12 Amp Power Noise Filter

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Confused with the DICE BMW T Version

Just got the DICE T for Christmas and looking at what I received looks different than the connectors in any of the install manuals online...

I have the DICE unit, the IPOD connect and those make sense to me, but there is a cord and with two black larger box type connectors attached to an insultated cord... looks like you plug both of those together (male and female) and then insert the 3 and 6 pin MINI connectors into the white connection on one of these pieces? Did anyone else get this in their kit? Not sure where to plug the MINI CD Changer connection into and just want to make I dont screw this thing up. Anyone have pics they can share on how it should look? Help if you can.

KD

BTW - No Nav, no CD changer, no HK. Just stock setup with multifunction stearing wheel.

I think you have the kit that installs right behind the stock head unit. Very similar to the HKenabler:

You remove the original cars wiring harness from the back of the stock head unit, and plug the mating plug from your DICE T into it - then the other DICE T plug goes into the back of the head unit.
So all wiring is at the front of the car instead of needing to run wires to the CD changer.

I have pics here on doing an aftermarket install - you'll do something very similar to install your DICE T:

Thanks for the quick response! Yep, those are the connectors I have... Bummer I wanted to mount it in the trunk not up front. I guess i will have to send back the cables i have and get the ones for the trunk. My plan was to mount it in the trunk to the cd changer cable and just keep the Ipod mounted behind the panel out of sight. Just control everything from the HU or the steering wheel.
