Talked to Dice earlier today. They have a tech working on programming changes to the BMW interface as we speak and he is testing it on a MINI. Dice support said that apparently the BMWs are not having as many problems as the MINIs although the interface and the bus comms are supposedly the same.

Dice hopes to have the interface firmware updated within the next couple of days and replacement units programmed. I plan to wait until next week to see if they feel they've worked out the kinks before jumping on the "I need my upgrade" bandwagon.

No it has never shown anything on the HU (Radio) at all. 6-1 as per the directions should display on the Radio and not on the nav yet for me it displays on the nav as a speed dial scrolling where a name or a phone number should display. I do not have the hands free or phone options etc. Just the nav. I have never had a cd changer however I do have the OEM Harman Kardon package.

Got a call from the dealer I bought my unit from, and DICE has the fix ready, and with the backlog of requests, have already run out of patched units. More to be ready next week.

Hmmm, Zoltan at Dension TS said he would ship the DICE replacement for my almost new ice-link on 5/22. I've been wondering why the shipping delay from L.A. to San Jose would take so long. I think you've all answered that question for me.

Cheers!

MiniEP - Thanks, much appericated. I was waiting on two things - 1 to see if actually worked and displayed info on the nav screen and 2 to see if there's any fixes to the glitches that people are reporting.

Paul! - regarding that guy from ebay, he finally wrote me back and stated "Ok i have the 2nd batch of BMW / Mini DICE units and they have been tested successfully. The adapters work great, you wont have a problem. As always the 30 day satisfaction garauntee and 1 year warranty will apply for both units." I find this hard to believe since most of you have reported that Dension still is in the works of finding a fix. I wonder who's right??? I guess I'll still wait a few weeks to be certain.

Peepers,

Hmm, unless he's working very closely with Dension and got the new batch immediately, I don't know how he would have got the adaptor so quickly. Good call on waiting a bit!

So no text display on '02 cars? Too bad, that's the only reason I wanted the DICE unit over the Blitzsafe unit that plugs into the iPod through the dock connector.

I don't believe that that generation HU can support text. You'll know it can if it plays MP3 CDs and shows tags.

Nope - AFAIK, none of the HUs enabled text display during the '02 model year, not the H/K, nor the later builds (such as my 9/03 MC with its Alpine unit).

Sadly, my DICE unit had two consecutive dropouts into the radio (with concomitant lack of recognition of the CDC/DICE) this weekend . . .

This tends to destroy my working hypothesis that a consistent shutdown and power-up routine might avoid the (firmware?) glitches/ shortcomings of the DICE.

Not exactly enjoyable when one must spend at least 5 minutes fiddling with pulling off the road, unplugging and re-plugging the DICE unit, re-statrting the ignition, and then perhaps having to "rinse and repeat".

The sound and the (limited) functionality has been fine, but only when it works: not what I expected, but then again maybe it was!

Eric

Peepers,
Here are thie pics I promised.

When *DICE* is working this is all I get for the display... nothing on the HU only the NAV and It is dropping out to FM radio at random. To fix it I must stop and unplug the DICE unit to make it work again.

Here is what it looks like with 6-01 selected.

Exactly what the Ice-Link did, with the exception that you had the same text on the H/U as well.

*Dice* fix??Good News??

I spoke to Dension tech support today. I shared with the guy that I had a problem with my unit and it drops out to FM etc. He asked for my invoice number and I gave it to him. He said they expect to have a batch of the units with a new firmware in tomorrow (IE June 6th) and that they would ship it out to me along with a return label. He said when I receive the new one to box up the old one and return it in with the label provided. If and as soon as I receive it I will post the out come here.

Wish me luck.......

Cool. I'll give them a call tomorrow, and hopefully they still have some of the updated ones so they can send me my replacement.

I am hoping my new firmware version arrives shortly as well.

Has anyone been listening to audiobooks? Normally it resumes where left but sometimes it starts over - frustrating! Not sure if it's an iPod or Dension issue...?

It's funny, too, that we try and semi-diagnose what's going on under the plastic hood of their switchbox... just can't kill the speculative bug in us, I guess. I keep catching myself trying to find consistency in the DICE failure, as if I have to prove or define the conditions that keep it from being dismissed as an 'intermittant, unreproducable problem' when clearly it's well known, being resolved, and not to worry about. Geekery! I did note, shortly before I left for NY, that I went 4 days with continuous play on the ipod and no dro off. That's from leaving the ipod under the seat WITH the DICE, and just starting the car up and the ipod resumes playing from the random shuffle of it's entire database. So I considered myself lucky in the interim.

*Dice* return update

Hi all,
Today I received an RMA number in my email…. So much for the cross shipping as support stated. I called and spoke with a sales person and she said they would not ship out a unit until they received the old one….. I guess it is better than nothing!...

I was just going to post the same thing... I'm becoming less and less patient with all of this....

I just spoke with Dension (I was going to earlier, but I was really busy at work) and he said that they'll have some replacement units in tomorrow. I was told that if I call him before 3PM (Pacific) tomorrow, he'll ship a new unit out to me that same day. We'll see what happens.....
