eBay is probably your best bet.

Or at least the NAM marketplace:

H/K amp help

Thanks Ian. But nothing on Ebay or NAM that I can see. I do have a lead out of California but wanted to stay local as I am in RI. Rich R

P.S. If I blew the amp would I get any sound at all, as I am getting the right front speakers but they are distorting like crazy? RR

Assuming of course you have no warranty now? That's the best way to get a new amp!

Josh (http://www.jwardell.com/mini/) had an H/K amp fail intermittently - the result was distorted sound.
I'm a bit surprised it's possible to blow an H/K amp because it seems deliberately designed to not allow itself to be overloaded (eg: it reduces overall max volume to compensate for turning up the bass).

So if you fade front/rear and balance left/right (doing them together so you select one "corner" at a time) you only hear sound from the right front? That would suggest a fault inside the amp.
Be sure to do the test on "spatial" - a selection that puts more than just bass to the rear speakers - so you can hear them.

H/K amp help

Ian: Thanks for the reply. However, I should have added that I had completely unwired the amp harness to install another amp but the results were not as good as the original H/K system so I was going to just change the HU and use a H//K enabler( I know you developed it) , however, in putting it all back together I managed to plug the positive adapter portion of the harness into the negative side and blew the 15 amp fuse. I fiqured that 12 volts running into the negative(unprotected side) of the amp was probably not a good thing. Also since I had
" modified the car" :warranty voided. Anyway I will find another H/K amp,use the enabler, change to an Alpine CDA 9855 and use the swfm module. Thanks Rich

Good luck in finding a used HK amp. And if you do, good luck on it's dependability. I heard a new one is way over $700!

Just my opinion, but for similar $$$, you could buy a new Alpine amp, new head unit, and new speakers, all comparable or better quality IMO than the HK. And there are less expensive Alpine head units that perform as well as the CDA 9855.

You could even retain your oem speaker screens that say HK

However, I know there are die-hard HK lovers out there, so if that's your thing, go for it. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Is the H/K amp the same part number on cabrio and hardtop? There's definitely differences in the speakers ...

Thanks for reply: I did get lucky and found one in Ohio. I'll keep you posted re: dependability. I did get a 90 day warranty. Thanks RR
