I have the portable Sony unit, so I can move it from car to car or even take it in the house. I like the programming, some of it is commercial free. The sound quality is good, better than standard FM radio but doesn't have the range of a CD in a good audio system. I'm fairly sure this is due to the signal compression of the system and not my car's. I use the casette slot interface, which you probably didn't order in your MINI, but there are other ways to hook it up. The antenna will work under glass, could be velcroed on the parcel shelf if you don't want a permanent installation. XM's monthly charge is several dollars less than Sirus, but some people like think it's worth more. I haven't listened to Sirus much so I can't say.

I work as an installer and I listen to it in my work van all the time. I'm not particularly fond of FM radio, and I feel there is a much better selection of music on XM. There are only a few stations I actually listen to, but I think it's worth it. I will be getting XM for my MINI once I get it.

We have one but not installed...our friend has one in his GTi and it's pretty cool if you are going a long distance and can find a station you like to listen to.....they give you this menu thing with it that has all the different stations. Personally we never installed ours because our local radio is fine and I mostly like to listen to CD's while I am driving.
