Navigation & Audio Nav Question
Nav Question
I just traded in my 2003 MCS for a 2006 MCS-JCW. I love the car. My new car's navigation system requires that I accept a "Warning" each time the car is started. The old car's navigation did not require this. Is there any way to get rid of the warning screen so I don't have to accept it each time?
Another question . . . my salesman told me that when I purchased the new navigation system, I am able to get the first DVD upgrade for free. Has anyone else heard of this. I was wondering if this was accurate.
Thanks for your help. Jonathan

The nav disc update is up to the dealership's policy, MINIUSA is not responsible for the update.. If your car saleman promise you a free update, then you need to go after him for the update when the new disc is available. Usually a new disc cost $199 from navteq.

What they said
It would not be the first time, though, that the sales person is wrong about this and confusing it with the Nav CD policy that BMW/MINI had (they automatically gave one free upgrade of the CD maps) whereas the DVDs are not similarly provided by the company (which totally pisses me off, won't go into that
). If the dealer wants to give you the new discs directly go for it - perhaps best to get it in writing..

I am picking up my NAV-equipped MSC JCW on Saturday and I struck a deal with the dealer that he would give me what he called an IOU if the system was not loaded with the latest Map disk AND system software. I have heard that the Map disk 2006-1 is due out this month - so if it is not loaded on delivery I will ask for the IOU in writing (you can't trust anyone's memory of this - or the fact that your MA might just move on some day unexpectedly....)
Don't know about the Warning issue - but would love to hear about people's experience with that....

Current Nav Disc Version
Jonathan and any others with a 2006 Nav-equipped MINI:
1.) When did you take delivery of your car?
2.) What version of the Nav system disc was included with your car, e.g. "2005-2"?
THANKS

Let's keep each other informed when the 2006-1 map DVDs actually show up somewhere. We can't seem to change Mini's policy on expensive data updates, but we can certainly improve their distribution methods.

The latest NavTeq map data DVD for North America is actually 2006-2 and not 2006-1 as stated. The 2006-1 DVD is the latest European version. Both versions of the DVD are available now from NavTeq (I don't know if they are coming in the new MINIs or not yet though). The 2006-1 Euro version has been out for a while now, and the 2006-2 North America version just came out a couple of weeks ago (the files on the disc are dated 12/05/2005).
I haven't seen the 2006-2 DVD yet, but I am running the 2006-2 CDs in my MKIV DVD-based nav system and they work just fine (i.e. the DVD-based units have no problem at all running the CDs). The only thing that the CDs lack over the DVD is the search within x number of miles feature since the "Travel Information" menu is disabled when using a CD. Also, if you live on the boarder of one of the map coverage areas, then it could be a hassle to swap CDs all the time. Other than that, they are just fine.

I took delivery of my car on Feb. 4. The car was made in Nov 2005. How do I find out what version the DVD is? I have the box in front of me and al it has is a serial number I think.
Sounds a bit odd... Is this a copied DVD? It should at official MINI print on the front of it with 2006-2 or ssomething similar. It should have also come in a DVD box with an officially printed insert.

If your MINI is hardtop, then the nav computer is located under the passenger's seat (you can eject the DVD by climbing into the back seat and looking under the front seat). If your MINI is a convertable, then the nav computer is located under the driver's seat.
There is a hindged plastic flap that you need to swing open (from right to left like opening a book) and then the eject button will be behind the flap (I belive that it is located in the lower left corner just below the power indicator light). Push the eject button once and wait for the DVD to eject.
