Door Speaker Baffle size

Crutchfield back ordered my 3.25" depth 6.5" round speaker baffles.

Will the 2-3/8" depth baffles work for my NON-HK 2004 MINI COOPER S door speakers?

I can't find any info on depth of stock speakers.

The way I estimated it was with the speaker removed, to place it sideways against a ruler, depth from where it mounts to the door to the rear of the speaker. The baffles I got from partsexpress were 4.5" deep but that is too much--they are smooshed against the other side of the door. The work fine of course. When I first looked though, there is no way the 2 3/8 baffles would fit the HK speakers. But, I have no idea with the stock speakers.
(The stock speakers stink anyway...why not take the opportunity to also get some decent ones from crutchfield?)
So if no one knows the answer, you can always just remove your speaker and measure it.

It still baffles me (hah) that MINI did not protect the speakers from the elements.

Well, the plan is to wait to replace until I blow the stock ones (only had the car for 8 months)

Crutchfield has both sizes od baffles on BO. Which means my winter break project (between symesters of college) will be delayed.

It baffles me that crutchfield could be sold out of every size

First decide if you want to keep your stock front speakers or eventually upgrade them. This will determine if you need more depth (3.25") or not.

The stock front door speaker measures 5.75" to the outer edge of the round plastic speaker. The mounting holes are slightly larger at about 6.75" on the diagonal.

The mounting plate is located about half depth on the speaker allowing the speaker cone to be situation cloaser to the outer speaker grill. If you place the stock speaker on a table with the magnet facing down and the cone facing up then the mounting plate is 1.25" above the table surface and the entire speaker measures 2.5" above the surface.

So a 2 and 3/8" baffle will work fine with a stock speaker. For best results using an aftermarket speaker you will need to add a speaker mounting spacer ring to raise the speaker toward the door speaker grill. A spacer can be custom made out of plywood or similar materials.

The stock speaker is very efficient and the stock head unit is not very powerful. It might be some time before your speaker will need replacing under normal use. You can turn up the volume but speaker distortion might be the limiting factor.
