'06 Nav & iPod :: True or Not?

OK you 06 owners out there. I was told by my MA that the Nav unit is different for the new 06 thus causing the old IPOD adapter not to be compatible with it. Because of this I have to wait until early 06 for the adapter. With that I am afraid that the Ice Link will also be incompatible with the car. Has anyone else heard this?

Nobody has an 06 and tried to get the IPOD adapter yet? :(

Well, if that is the case, this is what I was told.

I did hear that the navigation is improved, but I don't know if it affects the IPOD adapter. I believe I read it on motoringfile. I would go there and search navigation to find out.

I'll give it a look. I was hoping someone else could clarify this for me if they ordered an 06 with NAV.

The software has been updated but I have not heard of a change to the Nav unit in Minis or bimmers for that matter (doesn't mean there was not a change tho, just that I haven't heard anyone specifically bring it up).

Anyhow, MAs and SAs are, sadly, often wrong about things and either have the wrong info or simply do not know - I'd call around, perhaps the Classic parts dept and another one (tell them you have an 06 and want an iPod adapter and see what they say) and you can also call MINI NA. With hope they can clarify things for you.

Unfortunetly this is not as easy for me here in Germany. I checked with Pentagon and as informed of that, but I also bounced it off of Auto Kocher here in Germany and was told that it simply wasn't available. So, I figured I would ask here. The nav unit looks the same, but there could have been some backend changes. I have a Monster IPlay that works pretty good for now. It should hold me over until I can order the official part.

I came across this tread in my searches and would like to know as well.

My 06 MCS has NAV and I wish to install both the Auxiliary Input + Ipod adapter (mainly for the MFSW functionality whilst driving).

I was happy to read on NAM that I could have both Aux and Ipod interfaces installed however, i came across a conflict posted on outmotoring.com.

Is this true regarding the Navigation?

daflake,
I took delivery of a 2006 MCS about 3 weeks ago in northern CA. Manufacturing was completed on or about 7 March. It has in-dash navigation and the i-Pod adaptor that charges. There were no problem ordering this combination and none in use.

If you are located in or coming to northern CA, I'll let you try it yourself.

Billie,

Thank you. I ended up ordering an IceLink Plus as the Ipod (OEM) was actually discontinued (new version was developed) and installed it with no problems. Been jamming ever since.

and

I'm located in Germany, so coming to Cali would be a little hard. But thank you anyway.

This is semi true. If you have the CD Changer, or Sat Radio it will not work. However, it does work with navigation, but no text can be displayed if you go the IceLink route. I have had my icelink for six months and it works great.
