New Aux Port install problem - Help

Guru's,
I purchased a Skyfi 2 XM radio and needed to use the AUX port. I heard how easy it was to install the AUX port in my 05 MCSC so I picked up the AUX kit from the dealer and installed it in about 2 minutes. It was very simple just pull down the knee bolster, reach in and find the open plug in the back of the radio (lower, left) and plug in the cable. It fit in the socket perfectly.
Powered on the radio and pressed the Mode button and I saw the new AUX selection on the radio. Set the volume level on the radio to 4. Plugged in my XM radio and it worked great all day.
Got into my car later that same evening, put in a new MP3 CD and then when I went pressed the Mode button to switch back to the AUX port, it would not display. Just kept toggling from CD to FM and back, no AUX.
Can anyone help me with this problem? I double checked the cable and all is well. Have not yet tried removing it and plugging it back in.
Note: I have the HK radio, no nav, no ipod, no bluetooth.

Without some how having a bad cable I would double-check the connection just to make sure

Seems to me that the head unit is no longer seeing the aux connector in the back. I would give it a simple unplug and replug of the connector. Should be dirt simple. Good luck.

Did you still have the XM plugged in when you tried the second time?

Mine went away with my Sirius plugged in, but comes back when I unplug it. It has to do with the need for a ground loop cable. I havent gotten one yet, but there should be threads about this (search for "ground loop").

This didn't happen in my 2003 MINI, but my new 2006 it does.

Ground Loop Isolator issue maybe

I had the same thing happen to me. First 4 days perfect using the AUX port no problems, then after that I lost the AUX input. Installed the ground loop isolator and no problems since. I am using an XM Roady.

Easy to fix if this is the problem.

Thanks for the answers. Yes, if I unplug the XM radio and press Mode then I get the Aux port. Plug in the radio and it will stay on less than 1 minute. i will search for the "ground loop" threads. Thanks.

Wow, that has been a while. What I did was get a ground loop isolator from radio shack (I think) and used it. Basically it has rca plugs on either side and I put it between the AUX port connector and my XM Radio. I have had 3 XM radios since this problem and I tried to use all of them without the isolator and they simply do not work. The isolator hides under my dash and I have been using it ever since. Almost got a XM direct setup for MINI this Christmas because I hardly ever move it from my car, but lost the bid and did not get anything.
