Low Tech Navigation Help Needed
I understand that most here have the beautiful high tech navigation systems, but I'm looking for a lower cost simply solution. The Mini has those netted pockets on the back of the front seats. Does anyone know of a good north american road atlas that will fit in that pocket? Thanks.
You can always try asking for directions at the next gas station. . . .
A little closer to high-tech would be to use mapquest or similar free trip routing websites and print out whatever you need. . . .

I haven't tried it (I've got Nav
) but the Thomas Guides come in a cut down version that may very well fit back there. Don't know if they have them for other areas. Got mine at Costco.

It looks like the Thomas guides are just west coast, but thank you for the suggestion.
BearsMCS -- I was more concerned about the size of the map and it fitting in the pocket behind the seats. Is the State Farm/Rand McNally map small enough to fit there?
Thanks

Has anyone tried the Rand McNally Road Atlas Pocket or Midsize maps? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...17422?v=glance It is 8x10.5" so it may work.
The Pocket version http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846 is 6.25" x 3.875" so that would definately fit, but could you read it?
It looks like AAA has a pocket road atlas but at 3"x 6 1/8", I'm nearly certain that you'd need a magnifying glass to read it.
What do you think?

Gruswitz,
do you have a laptop? if so an alternative would be to get the DeLorme Street Atlas program. This way you would have a very good detailed map of the US. You can also add their GPS unit if you want. I bought the GPS and program and it works very well. It was about $130 for the entire package and $50 for the map program.
I don't think the State Farm atlas is much smaller than the McNally, it is just thinner. We have the State Farm one from a couple years ago.

I wonder who had the bright idea not to make the door pocket bottoms flat. What were they thinking as putting a map there is useless too.

Thanks Norman. No laptop
, but I will be getting a Treo 650 soon and will have access to online maps
, but I still wanted a backup road atlas for when high tech inevitably doesn't work. I just thought that maybe there was a perfectly sized road atlas that someone had found out there. Thanks again everyone for the suggestions.

Actually, my wife and I leave this month for a 5200 mile trip. Route 66 to AZ, up through Utah, Colorado and back. We used MS Streets to plot our route, printed it out and set-up a 3 ring binder will all our info.
However, this also does not fit anywhere.
