Navigation & Audio HK System
Hi Everyone,
I stopped by a my local MINI dealer today and heard the HK system in a new MC for the first time. Absolutely killer IMHO. The bottom end is crisp and punchy at the same time. If you have a car on order or are thinking about it, get this!!

I agree, the H/K is one of the better OEM stereo's I've heard in a car. Although the one I heard was str8 off the transport and was not broken-in, my trained ears can still tell there is excellent potential once everything sets-in. The "driver" function (time alignment) is awesome, and a rare feature in OEM indeed! My March '03 build MCS will have H/K, and at only $550, it's a great deal too.
We got our MCS this pasted Saturday, and the HK is quite impressive for a factory system. We still have not discoverd all of it's features yet.In time.WE just can't stop driving this car!Well worth the money and wait.Jaydawg.
Reading from the Miniusa site, it says that the HK system has 8 speakers correct? What are the locations of the speakers and what kind are they? For instance, front tweeters and mid would be 4 speakers. Are there a tweeter and mid in the rear as well or is it a coaxial in the rear? if so, where are the other two speakers? Are there any subs, or mid-bass?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I have seen pictures of this system. I think they have the same amount of speakers and in the same places, but it also has an amp in the boot. If any one has pictures or knows where they are on this site, then please could you post them?? I am getting quite a good system and was thinking about getting the HK speaker covers.
I haven't really checked but I think the speakers are in the same spots. The trim around the lower speakers on the door say "Harmon Karrdon" (or however you spell it) and I do know there is an amp or something in the boot. I thought that's what it was and now that you mention it, it makes sense. If you are looking towards the front of the car, on the right side, you can pop the panel there and you'll see it. It's not hard to pop, just depress the 2 clips on the top and pull slightly.
Personally I think it sounds great. Just got my MCS last week and I'm loving every minute of it.

The H/K system uses simliar grills, but all restyled to crank-up the cost
The 8 drivers are as follows:
tweeter and mid-bass in each door, 2-way coaxial in rear side-panel (consisting of a woofer and coaxially mounted midrange). The reason for no high frequency driver in the rear is to keep the front stage more coherent. I've heard the amplifier has been changed, and has (i think) 340W RMS total, dunno how many channels or anything about the crossovers (narf)
clearly, further research is required
