'05 Stereo Question about Random

Hi, I have an '05 HU (stock, non-HK) and am trying to figure our if it is normal.

Should the stereo remember the random state?

For example, Let's say I am playing a CD (or an IPOD playlist) with random turned on. I then turn off the stereo (by power switch or turning off car). When I turn it back on, the CD/IPOD picks up right where I left off... however the random setting is now off.

Is this normal for anyone else?
I hope not... as it's really annoying, especially with the IPOD, since turning random back allows songs just heard back into the new random list. I've lived with it now for 4-5 months so its not a major issue, I just started wondering if this is something I should mention to the dealer next time I'm around.

Thanks,
--kyle

Mine does the same thing...and yes it is quite annoying. To get around it I burn my MP3 discs with the songs already randomly sequenced.

Yeah... I keep the IPOD playlists long... so the chance of a song I just heard coming up again is somewhat slim.

But my new music playlist can get short at times... that's where it's the most annoying.

Its just the way it is, no idea why - no biggie to me though, I just hit the Nav accept button and random when I start the car, takes a half a second.

I agree this is annoying; I have the IceLink adapter, and every time I switch to a different playlist, I have to hit the random button again. Lame.

Yep, same thing. Random MP3 disc is the best solution IMO.

So in the standard play mode it will play them in the order they are burned to the disc? It doesn't do any sorting based on filename, etc? Picking my 05 MCS up mid June and want to have some prepared tunes for the drive home

Exactly...burn the MP3 disc with songs in "random" order. Playback in standard mode on Mini headunit...songs will play from first to last.

So it is only "random" the first time you play the disc...after that you recognize the sequence. As has already been mentioned...lame! At least you can have 10 hours of MP3's on one disc...sequence of 100 songs is hard to memorize. Random button is great for long road trips though.

Hitting the random button each time you start the car is a pain...and for some odd reason, my unit never seems to start with a song I have not recently heard...

Yeah, i hear that... my portable Rio Volt does the same thing. But thanks for the tip as putting together some "themed" disks that are in order is fun too, especially for long road trips. So at least that is do-able
