from my experiences, it cant be done. the HK system doesnt work like a regular system. the amp sends signal to all the speakers and the head unit controls none of the speakers besides the input signal to the amp. you can replace the whole setup, HU, amp and speakers to make it work, but why bother since you paid 500 bucks for the HK.

saying that, the HK HU is a very nice HU for what it needs to do. Ive added an amp to my system for a sub to add some bass, but once you start messing with speakers, certain things change and you might as well just replace the whole system. i replaced the fron door speakers with infinitys and it lost the lows in front and didnt sound right. so i put the factory speakers back in and it fixed the problem.

 

You can make a different stereo work with the HK system using a HK enabler - GBMini makes them for me. I am sure he will pop on soon
