Hello,

I am planning to get a mp3 player, it would either be the Creative Nomad 40g or the IPod. I am pretty mechanically challenged, and I am wondering which one offers me the best way to connect to the factory (non-HK) head unit? Specifically, out of AUX input and Icelink which one is easier to install? I also have a Valentine One plugged to the 12v socket in front. Does either one need to access the 12v socket?

I had an aux port installed before delivery just in case I ever got an mp3 player. My wife surprised me with a Zen for Christmas. So all I did was buy a two-ended wire to connect the unit to the port. I do not have a car charger for it, so I run it off battery. Works for me.
As far as installing the aux port yourself, I know there have been writeups here about how to do it. Search in this forum for it.

I suppose having an Ipod and the kit that lets you adjust all controls through the head unit and steering wheel would be most desirable. But, I am not married to Itunes for my downloads and all my stored music works.

I am reasonably competent mechanically, and installed the aux adapter using thos instructions in about 20 mins. The longest part for me was drilling out the hole in the parcel shelf to the right size, since I didn't have a big enough drill bit.

 

I have an Aux Input because I don't see me buying the iPod interface (its to pricey). I installed the input with the cable coming out between the down tubes and leading to my cupholder.

 

Installing the aux input is very easy. All you need to know how to do is turn a screwdriver. . . Give it a try and have the satisfaction of doing a small job yourself

 

Install the Aux Input yourself into the Parcel Shelf and have the MP3 sit on the shelf connected via retractible mini-to-mini cable so is convenient if you want to take your player off the shelf while still connected
