Bimmercode Expert Mode
Bimmercode Expert Mode
Should be an easy one to close out 2023...and probably answered before but I think it's too broad to search for...or at least I found it to be. Without further ado.
When using Bimmercode in expert mode, can you code something back to the way it was? What is the reason for expert mode vs. standard?
Thank you and happy new year!

Standard mode allows you to make changes which, underhood, do not always confine themselves to tweaking a single parameter/value in expert mode. In fact, I would venture that by the numbers, most changes made in standard mode are not implementable in expert mode via a single parameter/value tweak.
On pretty much any system of complexity, a given single "feature" involves setting several parameters/variables to a specific set of values as a group in order to get a specific effect. Coding on the MINI would be no exception.
With respect to using expert mode to undo changes, in theory it's doable, but you'd have to know everything that was done in the original change to make that happen. In general you might pull this off. However, I have had one situation where BimmerCode made more changes than what I told it to in expert mode, did not identify what those changes were, and failed to roll them back. I literally took a backup before implementing certain changes, there was an unexpected behavioral result, and restored the backup. My changes rolled back. The unexpected behavioral result did not roll back.
The folks at BimmerCode declined to investigate why the restore didn't "fully restore," responding that the unexpected behavioral result was a common issue outside of BMW/MINI coding -- despite it not being present on my MINI **before the backup was taken and before the coding was done** -- and therefore No Issue Whatsoever To Look Into As To Why Restoring To Pre-Change Didn't Actually Restore To Where You Were Pre-Change Sorry Dude Go Read Some Forums. I won't say that I expect such a scenario all the time, but it is a risk; it happened to me.
Hope this helps.

@cjv2 So it's not as simple as selecting ID6 in expert mode and then realizing I don't like it, so instead selecting the original ID5?
But based on the amount of forum discussion I have seen surrounding ID4/ID6 -- neither of which I understand myself -- it would appear that there is sufficient complexity there to warrant... that amount of discussion, confirmation, Q&A, etc. With that in mind, were it my car, I would accordingly proceed with caution.
